The elegance and freshness of a red wine from Vinsobres
The estate
The history of the Famille Perrin truly began in 1909 with Pierre Tramier's acquisition of Château de Beaucastel. Located in the Rhône Valley, this institution is now run by the fifth generation (Marc, Pierre, Thomas, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu and César). A pioneer, the estate adopted organic farming as early as 1950 under the guidance of Jacques Perrin. With around 300 hectares under its control, the estate stands as a key reference, renowned for its deep respect for terroir and its constant quest for authenticity through balanced wines.
The vineyard
The terroir of the Vinsobres appellation stands out for its altitude, with the vines for this cuvée perched at 400 metres in the historic lieu-dit of Les Cornuds. Sheltered from the mistral, this vineyard rests on slopes of stony and sandy marl, as well as on terraces of quaternary alluvium. These geological and climatic conditions provide ideal drainage and allow for slow ripening of the grapes, thus preserving a lovely natural acidity.
The vintage
2023 began with a particularly warm and dry spring. The growing cycle then benefited from welcome rains at the start of July, before enjoying an Indian summer that extended until the end of October, offering ideal conditions for a slow and gradual ripening of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
The manual harvest for Les Cornuds 2023 is decided upon after tasting and analysing the berries. After rigorous sorting, the grapes are fully destemmed and crushed. The Syrah ferments in conical wooden vats with punching down and pumping over, then is partly aged in barrels and concrete tanks. The Grenache, meanwhile, is vinified and aged exclusively in tanks to preserve its fruit. The final blend is made once malolactic fermentation is complete.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Syrah (50%) and Grenache (50%).
