Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the "Peyre Blanche" 2023 by Famille Perrin
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep, elegant ruby hue, enhanced by intense red highlights.
Nose
Wonderfully complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with luscious notes of red and black berries, reminiscent of raspberry and blackcurrant. It is then enriched by delicate floral touches of rose and cherry, along with spices such as black pepper, all underscored by a subtle minerality.
Palate
The attack is soft and imbued with freshness. The palate reveals a silky texture, supported by finely grained tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. The whole offers a superb balance between complexity and freshness, extending into a long, energetic and peppery finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
Ideal for pairing with Provençal cuisine, this red wine goes wonderfully with vol-au-vents, white meats in cream and mushroom sauce, or goose stuffed with morels. It will also enhance hard cheeses such as Comté or Emmental.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, this wine is best served at a temperature of 18°C, after decanting for thirty minutes to an hour. This "Peyre Blanche" 2023 can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to develop in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2028.
The Authentic Expression of Cairanne Terroir by Famille Perrin
The Estate
The history of Famille Perrin began in 1909 with Pierre Tramier's acquisition of Château de Beaucastel. Located in the Rhône Valley in France, the estate has developed over the decades through family succession. A pioneer, the estate adopted organic farming as early as the 1950s. Today, the fifth generation, represented by Thomas, Marc, Pierre, Cécile, Charles, Matthieu and César Perrin, leads the estate. Guided by respect for the environment, the family produces wines renowned for their elegance and their faithfulness to the terroir.
The Vineyard
Acquired in 2008, the Cairanne vineyard covers 14 hectares to the southwest of the historic village. This exceptional terroir stands out for its very stony soils, composed of clay and safre, as well as the presence of white limestone rocks that inspired the name of the cuvée. Farmed entirely organically, some of the vines, planted in the 1950s, benefit from deep root systems. This privileged geographic location allows for slow, optimal ripening of the grapes.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by a particularly balanced climate. Following a mild winter and a dry spring, the summer season was characterised by high temperatures, particularly in August and September. Although a slight rainfall deficit was observed during the summer, these weather conditions favoured ideal ripening and excellent grape concentration, with the harvest beginning in perfect health from the end of August.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes for the "Peyre Blanche" 2023 are hand-harvested during the coolest hours of the morning. After careful sorting and complete destemming, fermentation takes place at low temperature for around fifteen days. Extraction is carried out gently through daily pumping-over and punching-down. To preserve the vibrancy of the fruit and the minerality of the terroir, this wine undergoes no oak ageing, instead benefiting from a short maturation in stainless steel or concrete tanks before bottling.
Grape Varieties
This wine is a blend of 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Syrah.
