An exceptional Brunello di Montalcino by Donatella Cinelli Colombini
The estate
Founded in 1998 by Donatella Cinelli Colombini in Tuscany, the estate operates two properties: Casato Prime Donne in Montalcino with 17 hectares of vines, and Fattoria del Colle in Chianti. A pioneer, Donatella Cinelli Colombini was the first Italian woman to run a wine estate and created Italy's first all-female winery team. The vineyard has upheld a unique mother-to-daughter legacy for three generations. Specializing in Brunello di Montalcino, the estate combines tradition and modernity through hand harvesting, fermentation in concrete tanks, extended aging in oak barrels, and indigenous yeasts to reveal the authenticity of the Tuscan terroir.
The vineyard
This Brunello di Montalcino comes from the Ardita vineyard, located on the northern slope of Montalcino in a particularly sunny area. The Sangiovese vines benefit from a privileged exposure allowing for optimal grape ripening.
Winemaking and aging
The Casato Prime Donne IOsonoDONATELLA Riserva 2013 is vinified in open conical vats with punching down of the cap. Fermentation lasts 20 days, followed by a 10-day skin maceration. Aging takes place over approximately three years in French oak barrels of 5 to 7 hectoliters sourced from four artisanal cooperages, followed by six months in bare concrete egg-shaped tanks that promote oxygenation.
Grape variety
100% Sangiovese.
