Description
An intense and complex Sauternes
The estate
An 1855 Premier Cru Classé of the AOC Sauternes, Château Suduiraut boasts 92 hectares devoted to the vine. Bordering the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century property whose gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre. The estate is best known for its golden wines, produced through strict and very precise plot selections.
The vineyard
The 91-hectare vineyard of the estate is planted in gravelly and sandy clay soils and certified for High Environmental Value. This well-draining and lean soil pushes the vine to stretch its roots deep into the terroir, resulting in wines with a strong character. The 35-year-old vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming.
The vintage
In Sauternes, the 2019 vintage began with plenty of contrasts. The heat in the summertime eliminated any potential health risk for the fruit.
The winemaking
Harvest through successive sorting between September 17 and October 30.
The ageing
Ageing from 16 to 20 months. 50% in new barrels, 50% in barrels of one previous wine.
The blend
Sémillon (94%), sauvignon blanc (6%)
The tasting
This sun-coloured wine reveals a great complexity in the glass. The Château Suduiraut 2019 combines a great precision, intensity and aromatic power. The floral aromas mingle with candied and roasted fruit to deliver a sweet harmony on the palate.
