Description
The freshness and smoothness of a fine Sauternes wine
The estate
An 1855 Premier Cru Classé of the AOC Sauternes, Château Suduiraut boasts 92 hectares of land devoted to vines. Bordering the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th-century property whose gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre.
The vineyard
Château Suduiraut produces Sauternes wines that stem from vines planted in sandy-clay gravel soil. This well-draining and lean soil pushes the vine to stretch its roots deep into the terroir, resulting in wines with a bold character.
The vintage
The wet conditions throughout winter and spring caused a delay in the vegetative cycle and the estate’s teams increased their efforts to limit the disease pressure on the vines. The hot summer was punctuated by stormy spells, which favoured the vineyard's rapid development. The harvest was carried out in three selections, resulting in perfectly concentrated and high quality grapes.
Vinification and ageing
Following a precise vinification process, the wine is aged for 16 to 20 months in barrels (50% new and 50% second fill).
The blend
Sémillon (93%)
Sauvignon Blanc (7%)
Château Suduiraut 2009: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
Opulent and with a beautiful aromatic purity, this Sauternes wine exudes an alluring freshness and richness. Notes of candied citrus, fruit and liquorice blend harmoniously with woody nuances. A fine vintage that is on a par with the 1959, 1989, 2001 and 2005 vintages.
