Description
The freshness and elegance of a wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Located within the Saint-Émilion appellation on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Château Quinault l’Enclos belongs to the famous Château Cheval Blanc, 1st Grand Cru Classé « A » of Saint-Émilion. The winemaking of Château Quinault l’Enclos benefits from the same rigor as that of Château Cheval Blanc.
The vineyard
Located near the Dordogne, Château Quinault l’Enclos is a Saint-Émilion wine whose 19 hectares of vines are located in the heart of Libourne.
The vintage
The spring frost of April 7th and 8th was followed by significant downy mildew pressure due to heavy rainfall recorded at the start of the growing season. This persistent humidity disrupted flowering, leading to significant coulure on the Merlot grapes. While the rising temperatures at the beginning of summer promoted substantial and rapid vine growth—controlled thanks to the rigor of the estate teams—the dry and sunny conditions at the end of summer were ideal for refining ripeness up to the harvest.
Winemaking and ageing
Carried out by the Château Cheval Blanc teams, winemaking is done parcel by parcel with indigenous yeasts. Gentle extraction. A long maceration is accompanied by manual pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation in tank. Ageing takes place in foudres, demi-muids (600L) and 500-liter barrels (40% new, 60% one-year-old); the 12-month ageing is accompanied by rackings every three months.
Blend
Merlot (59%)
Cabernet Franc (23%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (18%).
