Wine Enthusiast

R.V.

88-90. Barrel sample. This wine shows flavors of smooth new wood and black plum. It's soft and fruity, with sweet, ripe tannins.

James Molesworth

Offers a solid graphite frame, with dark currant, fig and bay leaf notes at the core. A lightly tarry edge holds the finish. Drink now through 2015.

Andreas Larsson

Medium to deep ruby red colour. The nose offers some oak, leather, red and black currant with some herbal notes. Medium bodied, still a youthful tannic grip, fresh red currant flavours, sage and mild oak with a rather long finish.

André Kunz

(45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot) Spicy, herbal bouquet, red blackberries, tobacco. Light, rather slender palate with little fruit, sweet aromatics, little tannin, light finish. 15/20 2016 - 2022

Bettane+Desseauve

Without having ample body, the whole is elegant, indulgent, and balanced, with fine tannins.

La RVF

With a gently fruity style, this is a red that’s already very approachable, light and supple, yet without lacking substance. It opts for an easy-drinking balance and a gentle, lightly oaked vinification. The 2012 (14/20), more structured, is still firm, and its tannins should integrate over the course of a year.

Le Figaro Vin

A lovely wine brimming with smoothness and indulgence; extraction is measured, and the whole is deliciously hedonistic. Charming!

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Moderately fruity on the nose, with a richer palate than usual, flavorful, and with fine tannins. A harmonious and very pleasant whole.

Description

The complexity and refinement of a great Haut-Médoc red wine

The estate

Located at the gateway to Pauillac, Château Peyrabon is nestled in a lush green setting. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Château Peyrabon has undergone significant restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château Peyrabon is a very fine reference in the Haut-Médoc. It offers elegant and powerful Haut-Médoc wines, promising superb aging potential.

The vineyard

In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Médoc, the Château Peyrabon vineyard covers 49 hectares, 41 of which are in production. Averaging 22 years of age, the vines are planted on sandy gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Clay-limestone soils are found on 5 hectares of the vineyard.

Winemaking and aging

Following the harvest, the grapes undergo rigorous sorting. Plot-by-plot vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats, accompanied by adapted pump-overs and rack-and-return to favor gentle extraction. Maceration lasts 19 to 24 days. The press wines are separated and then selected after tasting. Malolactic fermentation is carried out partly in barrels. Aging lasts 14 months in barrels (26% new wood) followed by fining in vats.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (44.7%)
Merlot (44.3%)
Cabernet Franc (6.8%)
Petit Verdot (4.2%)
