The balance of a complex and refined Pomerol wine

The Delon family is very important in the world of Bordeaux wines. From the right bank to the left bank, from Saint-Julien with Château Léoville Las Cases to Pomerol with Château Nénin, the wines produced by this family represent some of the very best Bordeaux wines.

Following its acquisition in 1997 by Jean-Hubert Delon from his cousins in the Despujol family, who owned this Pomerol property since 1847, Château Nénin was radically transformed. From the vineyard to the cellars, everything has been renovated to produce a wine of exemplary refinement, a wine that achieves a great balance between power and elegance, purity and refinement, in addition to great potential for age.

The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux immediately became legendary. The superb weather conditions of the end of the season in particular allowed the fruit to ripen fully and reach that certain balance necessary for the production of wines with great ageing potential and charming aromatic profile.

At Château Nénin, the harvest took place between September 16th and 29th. The production was 37hl per hectare and the final blend of the estate’s First Wine is 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, a rather classic Pomerol.

In the glass, this Pomerol wine offers great aromatic complexity, with notes of red and black berries, as well as a nice touch of terroir that can be interpreted as "mineral". This is a refined wine but with a gorgeous weight and a substance that is perfectly balanced. The vintage effect brings to the glass this certain freshness of 2010 Pomerol, a fresh energy that helps extend the weight of this wine into a particularly long finish. These characteristics, along with its great ageing potential, make this vintage one of the most successful in the modern history of Château Nénin. A superb Pomerol !

Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2010 Nenin is a blend of 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it charges out of the gate with bold Black Forest cake, plum preserves and licorice scents followed by Chinese five spice and potpourri nuances with a waft of fallen leaves. Full-bodied, the palate has great richness and depth with firm, velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and savory.
