La Fugue de Nénin 2021

Fruity and fresh, enjoyable.

Strawberry and red cherry aromas on the nose, with some herbal chocolate notes, sour cherry and perfumed violets. Bright and crunchy on the palate, this has an initial sharpness — that shot of cherry juice at the back of the throat — which then settles to give a cool, creamy texture and a minty, airy feel. Soft and generous, with a gentle backbone that keeps things focused and enough flavour for a long finish. It falls a little short in weight and density, more gentle and elegant, but the finish is sustained and there’s definitely that wet-stone, cool touch of Pomerol gravel. Will be good for earlier drinking.

Chateau Nenin’s juicy, savory second wine, with blackberry, chocolate and walnut aromas and flavors. Orange-peel undertones with spices and cedar. Direct and focused. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc. Even better in a couple of years.

The 2021 Fugue de Nénin, which comes from younger vines, has a light bouquet of blackberry and crushed strawberry mixed with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly firm tannins on the entry, moderate depth, and a touch of licorice toward the finish. It feels a bit brutish at the moment, but a few months will soften its edges.

Forward, savory red plums on the nose and on the medium-bodied palate helps create the backdrop for this early drinking charmer. Drink from 2023-2028. 86-88

92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. Intensely blueberry-like bouquet, chilled fruit tea, delicate lilac notes and licorice. On the elegant palate with a soft texture, finely sandy extract, well-supported tannins, supporting verve and medium body. In the focused finish, red-berry contours, juniper and finely sandy astringency, rounded.

(92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 13% vol. alcohol) Fresh, slender bouquet, red cherries, currants, wood. Slim, light palate with sweet fruit, little tannin, delicate structure, light aromatics, fresh finish. 16/20 2025 - 2036

Raspberry and red cherry, touches of crab apple on the signoff, but this is supple and carefully handled. 60 IPT, pH 3.5, 38 hl/ha yield. 15% new oak for ageing, 3% amphora, harvest from September 23 to October 1.

Fresh, penetrating red fruits on the nose, with a hint of aromatic herbs. Charming and succulent on the palate, with ripe, very sweet red fruits and a digestible finish.

Highly inviting thanks to its fruity intensity, the bouquet reveals hints of strawberry candies and raspberries. A fine balance between density and structure. The tannins are somewhat tight and austere on the finish, but this is rather well offset by the fruit.

Lovely deep color. Intense nose with ripe, slightly creamy fruit. Juicy, seductive palate, offering the delicacy of a Burgundy and all its fruit, plus a sensation of fine roundness. Wine made with 8% press wine. Blend: 92% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.50 – IPT: 60.
