A neighbour of the illustrious Château Haut-Brion, Château La Mission Haut-Brion has served for centuries as one of the most iconic references of Bordeaux. Founded in the 16th century by the Lestonnac family, the property was then managed by the Lazarist priests. Now belonging to the Clarence Dillon estates and Prince Robert of Luxembourg, Château La Mission Haut-Brion continues to shine as one the greatest châteaux in the world.
Located in the municipalities of Talence and Pessac, Château La Mission Haut-Brion is classified under the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The Château La Mission Haut-Brion vineyard covers 29 hectares of vines, 25 of which are dedicated to red grape varieties and 4 to white grape varieties. The vines of Château de La Mission Haut-Brion are planted in beautiful gravelly soils resting upon a subsoil of clay, sand, limestone and faluns (a shelly limestone).
While winter and spring were marked by heavy rainfall, drought set in at the beginning of summer. The operations of the teams at the château were limited so as to protect the vines from the sun. Even though maturity was very early, these high temperatures, accompanied by a significant water deficit, slowed down vine growth and tempered its advance. Through picking the grapes only in the mornings and transport to the wine cellar being refrigerated, the harvests preserved the fully ripe aroma of the harvested grapes. The 2020 vintage unveiled concentrated and beautifully fresh wines.
Château La Mission Haut-Brion 2020 is made from a blend of merlot (48.6%), cabernet sauvignon (43.2%) and cabernet franc (8.2%).
The wine is a beautiful, dark purple colour.
The nose initially mixes intense notes of red fruits with fresh and ripe notes. Through aeration, it develops a charming, fruity force, coupled with beautiful woody and spicy notes.
The attack is round and opulent. The tight and juicy palate seduces with its volume, length, refined tannins and indulgent finish. This balanced wine perfectly conveys the planted grape varieties at the vineyard.
