This Sancerre Les Romains 2011 from Alphonse Mellot is an ample and precise white wine. This wine comes from Sauvignon Blanc vines planted on a formation of clay and flint that has a South South-East exposure. In this Sancerre Les Romains 2011 it is easy to find the mark of the flint. The bright, clear and pale yellow robe has emerald undertones. The nose is open with notes of delicate white flowers, white fruit and a touch of iodine. Quince, currant and grapefruit voluptuously complete the complex palate. This is a mineral and complex cuvee with great precision.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
Grapefruit, quince, and blackcurrant scent and lusciously fill the palate of Mellot's 2011 Sancerre Les Romains, while sweetly floral perfume reminiscent of if not as intense as that found in the corresponding La Demoiselle wafts from the glass. Further depth in the form of nut oils and chalk accrue to this estate-typically polished Sancerre from parcels planted soon after the Second World War. It finishes with a honeyed aspect rare for its appellation, yet with enough primary juiciness as well as stony counterpoint to retain a modicum of refreshment and remain balanced. I envision this being best enjoyed over the next half dozen years.
