The terroir: a natural setting

Located on the coast of Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, the Yoichi distillery founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, owes its uniqueness to its climatology, which is similar to that of Scotland.

The harsh and cool climate, punctuated by cold winters, confers distinctive attributes. The pure and fresh air, combined with the abundant fresh water from the surrounding springs, creates an ideal terroir for the maturation of whiskies.
