Characteristics and tasting tips for Gin Christian Drouin
Tasting
Nose
The nose reveals a rich and complex aromatic palette. Notes of precious woods (cedar, oak) intertwine with aromas of roasted coffee and candied apricots. A touch of peppermint adds freshness. The nose then evolves toward sweet spices, maple syrup, and pumpkin, evoking the atmosphere of a woodworking shop.
Palate
The attack is round and honeyed, marked by citrus and dark chocolate. The palate recalls marc de Bourgogne or a coffee liqueur. It develops toward heady flowers (peony, rose) and dried fruits (prune, apricot). A lively, sustained fruit acidity (nectarine, melon) adds energy to the whole. The finish is long and reveals yellow fruits (apricot, peach, mirabelle), with candied, vegetal (cut hay), and spicy (ginger) accents. Cocoa powder lends a fine grain and the empty glass reveals notes of mimosa and brimstone.
Mixology
Gin Christian Drouin is perfect for making a Gin & Tonic.
The signature and refinement of an artisanal French gin from Normandy
Christian Drouin, an icon of the Pays d'Auge
Founded in 1960 by Christian Drouin Sr. in the Pays d'Auge, Maison Christian Drouin has established itself as a benchmark for Calvados. A family business, it has been run since 2013 by Guillaume Drouin, the third generation, who perpetuates know-how combining precision and respect for the fruit. The calvados are distilled in small copper stills, then mostly aged in previously used casks in order to preserve the aromatic purity of the apples.
Gin Christian Drouin: production and limited edition
Building on its expertise, Maison Christian Drouin broadened its horizons in 2015 with an artisanal French gin, crafted from Normandy ciders and botanicals distilled separately. This approach reflects the exacting standards and innovative spirit of Christian Drouin. This artisanal spirit created by Guillaume Drouin is distilled in small copper stills from Normandy ciders. Its particularity lies in its production method: each botanical is distilled separately before being blended in small batches.
The composition of this gin is based on eight botanicals: juniper berries, ginger, vanilla, lemon, cardamom, cinnamon, rose petals, and almonds. This selection achieves a balance between floral freshness, spicy warmth, and fruity sweetness.
A limited-edition production
Each production batch is limited to 2,850 bottles, which makes it possible to adjust the proportions of each botanical to obtain the best blend possible. This artisanal approach guarantees the product’s quality and consistency. The packaging establishes a link between the world of calvados and that of gin, with Christian Drouin’s signature and waxwork details that attest to artisanal craftsmanship. The gin has been awarded several gold medals since its launch.
