Description
Tasting notes and recommendations for R de Rieussec 2025 from Château Rieussec
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a delicate golden hue, subtly enhanced by soft green highlights.
Nose
The bouquet is particularly intense with remarkable aromatic precision. It expresses enticing notes of citrus and white-fleshed fruits, delicately underscored by a fine minerality.
Palate
With beautiful density, the palate offers pronounced freshness that brings lift and real depth. The acidity, both refined and persistent, stretches into a long, saline finish. The overall profile is one of great elegance, pure and precise.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with fleshy or rich fish such as salmon and halibut. It also complements Asian cuisine, spicy fried chicken, sautéed vegetables, arugula salad with Parmesan, or pasta with basil pesto.
The elegance of a great Bordeaux Blancs Secs wine from Château Rieussec
The estate
Founded in the 18th century by the Carmelite monks of Langon, the Château Rieussec is an iconic property of the Sauternes appellation. Recognized as a Premier Cru Classé in 1855, the estate was acquired in 1984 by Domaines Barons de Rothschild. Today, Saskia de Rothschild leads this prestigious vineyard, which stands as a true benchmark brand. Committed to a strong environmental approach, with a conversion to organic viticulture, the château is distinguished by its constant pursuit of excellence and innovation.
The vineyard
Located on the left bank of the Garonne, at the junction of the communes of Fargues and Sauternes, the terroir extends over 85 hectares. The vines grow on sandy clay gravel soils, with the notable presence of a limestone area particularly well suited to producing great Bordeaux Blancs Secs wines.
The vintage
The year 2025 began with a mild winter followed by an early and steady spring. The summer season proved hot and very dry, resulting in marked water stress. These conditions naturally limited yields while ensuring even and precise ripening of the berries, preserving excellent freshness to deliver a taut, expressive wine full of character.
Winemaking and aging
To craft R de Rieussec 2025, the harvest is carried out manually in small crates from rigorously selected plots. Sauvignon Blanc is picked early to preserve its thiol aromas, while Sémillon is harvested at a more advanced stage of ripeness to bring structure and richness. After cooling to limit oxidation, gentle pressing and cold settling are performed. The Sémillon ferments mainly in new and one-wine oak barrels, while the Sauvignon is primarily vinified in stainless steel tanks at low temperature. Aging on lees lasts six months, with regular bâtonnage for the barrel lots. The final blend is composed of 50% stainless steel tanks and 50% barrels.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 40% Sémillon.
