  • A Madiran red with smooth tannins

A blend of Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon from the heart of the Madiran appellation, Madiran from Chateau Montus is a delightful wine. The vines are 30 years old and ideally planted on steep slopes of pebbles and brown-red clay. For a period of 12-14 months (depending on the vintage), the wine is matured in barrels.

Madiran 2015 from Chateau Montus has subtle aromas of red fruit concentrate. Voluptuous and suave, the wine flaunts its craftily developed tannins. The finish is elegant and aromatically persistent.

Know that the wine will evolve over time, and that the current commentary may not be valid in the future.

  • A rich and opulent Madiran

The Madiran Prestige from Chateau Montus is a red wine produced from 100% Tannat in the Madiran appellation. The vines, on average 30 years old, are harvested in crates and planted on steep slopes. The slopes are covered with pebbles and a sub-soil of brown and orange clay. Wine is aged in new barrels for 14-16 months.

This wine has an atypical character and shows generosity and depth. The nose develops discrete and complex aromas of fruit. In the mouth, opulence and richness are quite present. In certain years, you can notice hints of balsamic, chimney soot, or cocoa

Attention, this commentary is based on the wine after its release. The product evolves over time, as will our commentary.

  • This is the top of the wine range produced by the Château La Bastide. The sisters Catherine and Isabella Orliac, owners of this Brulhois Estate are proud of this nectar, originating from a recipe that was forgotten since 1780. This one was recovered thanks to a letter - signed by Louis XVI himself, dated June 11, 1780 - found in the bottom of a secretary and vouching for the King's benevolence to Jean Orliac, merchant and producer of wine at that time, ssas well as owner of this Château. The legend was born. If the recipe for this red wine has slightly changed (it initially included Moroccan rose petals, ginger from Martinique and Colombard), the more modern formula embraces Merlot, Cabernet and Tannat. The color is dark on dark purple hues. Of a beautiful aromatic power, the nose of the Cuvée Royal Heritage 2008 expresses graphite flavours on concentrated notes of black fruit, nearly stewed with light oak hints. On the palate this Brulhois is luscious on a tight frame (to melt along with time), all ending on a dynamic feeling, and a tad nervous finale. A wine designed for maturation, this Chateau La Bastide Royal Heritage 2008 is a wine of patience. South West - Brulhois - Red - 13.5°

  • A round, full and dense red wine from Madiran

Château Bouscassé is a property whose red wine is produced in the Madiran appellation. Covering an area of 50 hectares, the vineyard benefits from vines aged between 20 and 100 years on average, planted on fine yellow and white multicoloured clays, all over a layer of cracked limestone. The 2016 vintage blends 60% Tannat, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

At Château Bouscassé, the 2016 vintage was marked by a mild winter and spring that brought on an early development of the vine. The summer slowed this growth by being rather dry. This classic vintage has benefited from optimal grape maturity thanks to rain in September.

The Château Bouscassé 2016 is round, full and dense on the palate. One can observe aromas of fresh fruit, which make the wine delicious, while maintaining wonderful balance. Château Bouscassé 2016, thanks to the Tannat, has an exceptional ageing potential. To be kept until 2047-2067.

  • A straightforward and fine red wine from Château Bouscassé

A red wine produced exclusively from Tannat in the Madiran appellation, Château Bouscassé Vieilles Vignes comes from a vineyard aged between 50 and 100 years on average, planted on clay-limestone and marbled clay. The ageing is carried out exclusively in new barrels, for 24 months.

The 2016 vintage of Château Bouscassé Vieilles Vignes benefitted from an extremely mild winter and spring, leading to an early budburst. But this early development of the vine slowed during a more lukewarm and dry summer. The grapes could, nevertheless, be harvested at optimum maturity thanks to rain in September.

At tasting, the Château Bouscassé Vieilles Vignes 2016 displays a very expressive and complex nose, an expression of clay soils. The tannins are precise and contribute both length and elegance to this wine. Dense on the palate, one can observe beautiful freshness and a subtly integrated woodiness in this Vieilles Vignes 2016.

  • Château Montus 2016: a red wine with great roundness

Château Montus is produced in the Madiran appellation. Aged 30 years on average, the vineyard benefits from steep slopes with round pebbles and subsoils of brown and orange clay. The wine is aged in barrels for 12 to 14 months depending on the year. The 2016 vintage blends 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2016 vintage at Château Montus saw a mild winter and spring, which led to an early development of the vine. The summer, more lukewarm and rather dry, slowed down the evolution of the vine. However, the rain in September managed to perfect the ripening of the grapes, picked at the perfect moment.

The Château Montus 2016 displays a style typical to the property, showing itself to be rich, elegant and deep. It develops harmonious aromas of red fruits, along with subtle peppery notes and a woody vanilla. The wine shows a beautiful maturity and roundness on the palate.
