Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2021 from Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a deep, brilliant ruby hue.
Nose
The bouquet opens with aromas of dark fruit, notably black cherry and wild blackberry, accompanied by delicate floral notes. Hints of fine oak and spice add a harmonious complexity, while a chalky minerality emerges subtly in the background.
Palate
On the palate, this wine seduces with its silky attack and lovely roundness. Velvety tannins caress the palate, revealing lingering dark fruit flavours mingled with notes of cocoa, liquorice and minerality. The well-defined acidity brings freshness and balance, leading to an elegant, slightly tight finish. The whole expresses a beautiful harmony between ripe fruit and classic structure.
Food and wine pairings
This Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2021 pairs magnificently with roasted or grilled red meats, notably Charolais beef or bœuf bourguignon. It also suits feathered game such as woodcock or partridge roasted with wild mushrooms, as well as furred game in a civet. Washed-rind aged cheeses, particularly Époisses, make a perfect regional match.
Serving and cellaring
We recommend serving this Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2021 at a temperature of 16 to 18°C. Decanting for one hour before serving will allow the wine to fully reveal its aromatic richness and finesse on the palate.
A Burgundy Grand Cru Combining Finesse and Structure
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express the full finesse of the Burgundian terroir.
The vineyard
The Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" comes from a parcel located on the hill of Corton, north of Aloxe-Corton, at an altitude of 273 metres. This climat takes its name from the many stones that dot the soil. The terroir is characterised by brown and red clay soils, enriched with marls with a high potash content, resting on a limestone substrate. The particularly favourable south-easterly exposure allows Pinot Noir to flourish fully and gives the wine a distinctive minerality as well as intense aromas.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was marked by contrasting weather conditions. After a cool start to the season, premature summer-like temperatures in April stimulated budbreak, followed by a sudden frost episode in early April that reduced yields. A cool, rainy May slowed the vegetative cycle, before a return to milder temperatures in June allowed for a good flowering. A rainy period from late June to early August demanded considerable work in the vineyard, before the weather stabilised in mid-August. Harvest began around 18–20 September, dates more traditional than in previous years. This vintage produced wines characterised by freshness and classic elegance.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2021 are hand-harvested and then rigorously sorted. After complete destemming, vinification takes place with indigenous yeasts, favouring a minimal-intervention approach. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for approximately seventeen months, allowing optimal maturation while preserving the wine's finesse. Bottling is carried out by gravity, without filtration or fining, in order to preserve the integrity and authenticity of the wine.
