Characteristics and tasting tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2020 by Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
The wine shows a deep, intense red hue.
Nose
The nose reveals a powerful, complex bouquet dominated by intense dark fruit aromas. Notes of spice blend with characteristic earthy touches, adding depth and character to the aromatic profile.
Palate
On the palate, this Corton Grand Cru "Les Perrières" 2020 stands out for its breadth and assertive structure. The tannins, present and well defined, nonetheless display lovely finesse and a refined grain. The whole shows remarkable concentration while maintaining a harmonious balance, the hallmark of the 2020 vintage.
Food and wine pairings
This red Burgundy is ideally paired with prime red meats, feathered game or ripened soft-rind cheeses. Its structure and power also allow it to elevate elaborate dishes served with sauce.
Serving and cellaring
This wine will benefit from being decanted one to two hours before serving to fully reveal its aromatic complexity. Serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C. Built for ageing, it has significant potential and will evolve favourably for many years in the cellar.
A powerful, structured Burgundy Grand Cru from Domaine Méo-Camuzet
The estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate farms prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The vineyard
The Grand Cru "Les Perrières" comes from a climat located on the hill of Corton, at an altitude of around 273 metres. This parcel enjoys an ideal south-easterly exposure and sits on particularly stony clay-limestone soils, a characteristic that gave the lieu-dit "Perrières" its name. These stony soils, brown to reddish in colour, give the wines an assertive structure and exceptional ageing capacity. The vineyard is managed using environmentally respectful practices close to organic farming, with regular ploughing and meticulous parcel-by-parcel management.
The vintage
The 2020 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by particularly favourable weather conditions. The year was marked by generous sunshine and high temperatures, notably during a heatwave in early August. These sunny conditions produced perfectly ripe, concentrated grapes. Despite the summer heat, the vines did not suffer from excessive water stress thanks to the water reserves built up over the winter. The 2020 vintage stands out for a rare combination: wines with lovely ripeness while retaining remarkable acidity, a guarantee of balance and freshness.
Winemaking and maturation
This wine is vinified according to the estate's traditional methods, which favour respect for the fruit and the expression of terroir. After hand harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are partially destemmed before being placed in vat. Fermentation takes place with the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the berries, with no added selected yeasts. Interventions during maceration are kept measured to preserve aromatic finesse. Maturation takes place in oak barrels, with a significant proportion of new oak suited to Grand Cru status. The wine is neither fined nor filtered before bottling, which is carried out by gravity.
