Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Louis Chèze "Ro-Rée" 2024

Tasting

Colour
A straw-yellow hue, both clear and brilliant.

Nose
Wonderfully delicate, the bouquet reveals floral notes of hawthorn and acacia, which evolve towards aromas of ripe fruit and honeyed touches, subtly underlined by light hints of vanilla and toast.

Palate
The palate offers a full, supple and unctuous texture. The natural richness of the blend is perfectly balanced by a lovely mineral freshness and great aromatic complexity.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully well with white meats or fish in sauce. It will also enhance scallops, lobster, roasted root vegetables or soft-rind cheeses.

Service and storage

To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to serve this Louis Chèze "Ro-Rée" 2024 at a temperature between 8 and 11°C. While it can be enjoyed young to make the most of its fruit, this wine also boasts excellent aging potential, allowing it to evolve over several decades.

Other characteristics

The name of this cuvée comes from the Ardèche dialect word meaning "oak," in reference to the trees bordering the plot from which it originates. It is the estate's most emblematic white wine.

The elegance and aromatic richness of a Saint-Joseph white wine

The estate

Founded in 1978 with just one hectare of vines, Louis Chèze is today an essential reference in the northern Rhône Valley. Located on the heights of the commune of Limony, this family estate now spans 45 hectares across prestigious appellations. Still led by its founder Louis Chèze, the estate is gently preparing the transition to the next generation, with his children Benoît and Camille becoming increasingly involved. The house's philosophy is rooted in sustainable viticulture, aiming to express the full authenticity and uniqueness of each terroir.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from plots located on the heights of Limony, at the heart of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines, aged between 15 and 40 years, thrive on light, shallow soils composed of granite, mica schist and leucocratic migmatite. The east-facing orientation allows the vines to benefit from morning freshness, promoting slow grape ripening. The estate practices sustainable viticulture with a high planting density and green harvesting to concentrate the aromas.

The vintage

2024 was marked by particularly demanding and cool weather conditions in the region. This atypical climate required great adaptability in the vineyard in the face of climatic challenges, shaping a distinctive growing cycle.

Winemaking and aging

The harvest is entirely manual. After careful sorting on a vibrating table, the berries are pressed and the must undergoes cold settling. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in oak barrels. The Louis Chèze "Ro-Rée" 2024 is then aged for 8 to 10 months in barrels (20% new oak and 80% barrels having previously held two to three wines), with regular lees stirring to add roundness. The wine is finally bottled without filtration.
