Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie "La Louvetrie" 2023 by Jo Landron
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a bright lemon yellow hue, clear and luminous, reflecting bottling without fining or filtration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, blending scents of lemongrass, candied lime zest and meadow flowers. Subtle lees notes intertwine with invigorating sea spray.
Palate
Displaying great freshness, the palate offers a thirst-quenching acidity and a light texture. Flavours of green apple, pear and citrus fruit harmonise with a very pronounced saline minerality. Ageing on the lees brings a delicate creaminess to the mid-palate, extending into a clean, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with raw or cooked seafood, such as oysters, clams or the traditional moules frites. It also enhances delicate white fish as well as vegetarian dishes dressed with a lemon vinaigrette.
Service and storage
Ideally designed to be enjoyed for its fruit while young, the "La Louvetrie" 2023 can be savoured now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2028 for those who prefer more mature profiles.
The mineral expression of a great Loire wine by Jo Landron
The estate
Founded in 1945 by Pierre and Julien Landron, the Domaines Landron now spans 48 hectares in the Loire Valley, France. It was under the impetus of the iconic Jo Landron, a pioneering figure recognisable by his famous moustache, that the estate turned to biodynamics to express the purity of its terroirs. Today, his daughter, Hélène Landron, leads the estate. She passionately carries on this family heritage, ensuring the excellence of these great white wines.
The vineyard
The vines behind this cuvée are the highest on the estate, located on the slopes of the Sèvre river, near Nantes. With an average age of 15 to 30 years, they thrive on a complex geological mosaic composed of sand, clay and a bedrock of metamorphic rock known as amphibolite. This unique terroir, swept by ocean winds, is cultivated according to biodynamic principles with controlled yields, producing exceptionally high-quality grapes for this Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie.
The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by a growing season with cool climatic conditions, typical of this region, allowing the vegetative cycle to unfold peacefully and the berries to retain a lovely natural acidity.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for the "La Louvetrie" 2023 are harvested by hand with rigorous sorting starting in the vineyard. At the winery, whole clusters undergo a gentle, slow pneumatic pressing lasting about three hours. Fermentation occurs naturally using indigenous yeasts over two to three weeks. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for 6 to 12 months, without malolactic fermentation, to preserve all its freshness. Finally, bottling is carried out by gravity, without any fining or filtration.
