IGP Var Wines : Key Points

The IGP Var is only located in the Var department, in the heart of the Provence wine region. The vines enjoy a Mediterranean climate and are planted on limestone soils in the western part of the appellation, while the eastern part is made up of crystalline soils. The IGP Var produces red wines (Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cinsault), rosés (Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, Mourvèdre), whites (Rolle, Vermentino, Viognier, Chardonnay) and sparkling wines (which are not eligible for the IGP). The rosés are lively, fruity and structured. The reds are fleshy, powerful and have a fantastic tannic structure. The whites of the IGP Var are fine and lively, while the sparkling wines (mainly rosés) generally reveal floral and fruity scents and are nicely rounded.
