The Griotte-Chambertin appellation covers an area of 2.65 hectares in the Gevrey-Chambertin commune. This Grand Cru appellation benefits from varied soils on a rocky hillside. At the top of the hill, the soils consist of brown soil, silt and gravelly scree while the slope has clay-limestone soil. Griotte-Chambertin only produces red Pinot Noir wines. At tasting, the Griotte-Chambertin develops red fruit and black fruit aromas with spicy, empyreumatic, floral and vegetal notes. On the palate, it is powerful, opulent, elegant and complex. It is often advisable to wait ten years before drinking a bottle from the Griotte-Chambertin appellation.
