Decanter

Wool, waxy lemons, some peach skin and lots of florality. Crystalline and pure with a soft waxy element, really fine and gentle on the palate with some cool creaminess. Delicate taste of citrus, some white peach and a touch of pear. A little quiet at the moment, more mineral-focused with a hint of orange and mango but definitely more cool than fruity. Nice weight and great drinkability. Aged 12% in new barrels, the rest from one-wine barrels for nine months. Represents 22% of the production of dry wines. 3.25 pH.

Description

An exceptional dry white wine from the prestigious terroirs of Sauternes

The property

Founded in 1580, the Château Suduiraut, located in Sauternes in the Bordeaux region, is a prestigious vineyard, classified as Premier Cru Classé since 1855. The estate extends over an exceptional terroir, conducive to the production of sweet wines, thanks to a unique microclimate favoring botrytis cinerea. The gardens, designed by André Le Nôtre, add a remarkable architectural dimension. Since 1992, the estate is under the ownership of AXA, perpetuating a viticultural heritage of excellence. The main grape varieties include sémillon and sauvignon blanc.

The vineyard

The plots dedicated to the production of this Bordeaux Dry White signed by Château Suduiraut benefit from an exceptional terroir, mainly composed of gravelly and clayey soils. This geological diversity gives the wine a particular complexity and aromatic richness. The vines, cultivated with the utmost care, are optimally exposed to promote a slow and regular maturation of the grapes.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a particularly rainy autumn and winter, allowing the replenishment of the soil's water reserves. Spring was marked by an early bud break, about 10 days ahead of normal, followed by a cooler period in April-May which slowed vegetative development. Heavy rains in May favored the appearance of mildew, but the hot and dry summer allowed to control the situation and ensure a good maturation of the grapes. The harvest took place from August 28 to September 13 under excellent conditions.

Vinification and aging

After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo a gentle pneumatic pressing for about 2h30. The juices are then clarified by a cold settling at 10°C. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in barrels, 15% of which are new wood, at a controlled temperature between 17 and 22°C. The aging continues for 9 months, with 12% new barrels and the rest in barrels of one wine, accompanied by regular stirring to develop complexity and volume.

Blend

This Grand Dry White Wine "Vieilles Vignes" 2024 from Château Suduiraut is the result of a blend of sémillon (56%) and sauvignon blanc (44%).
