Description

A Saint-Joseph red wine by E.Guigal, seductive in its complexity and aromatic richness

The producer

The E.Guigal estate was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, took over in 1961. Today, it is the third generation that perpetuates the heritage and values of this iconic family estate in the Rhône Valley.

Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, the E. Guigal estate watches over a patchwork of vineyards located in numerous appellation, creating a range of wines of impeccable quality. Over the years, E. Guigal has developed rapidly, becoming the owner of the famous Château d'Ampuis in 1995, as well as several other wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine and Château de Nalys, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).

The vineyard

The Vignes de l'Hospice by E.Guigal is produced from a monopoly comprising exceptional vineyards from the former Jean-Louis Grippat and Vallouit estates, located in the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines are between 20 and 80 years old on average and are planted on an impressive steep hillside with granite soil.

The vinification and ageing

Following the temperature-controlled vinification (up to 33°C), the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 30 months.

The blend

E.Guigal's 2016 Vignes de l'Hospice is a 100% Syrah.

The tasting

Colour

The colour is a beautiful dark red.

Nose

Complex, this wine combines powerful and intense black fruit fragrances with subtle notes of new wood.

Palate

A powerful attack precedes a palate that is charming due to its assertive tannins, all while maintaining great elegance.

Service

For an optimal tasting experience, serve between 16°C and 18°C.

Storage

This red wine from the Saint-Joseph appellation can be kept in the cellar until around 2026, enabling it to express all its aromatic nuances.

Food and wine pairing

E.Guigal's 2016 Vignes de l'Hospice will perfectly complement red meat, game and cheese.
