Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Lieu-Dit Saint-Joseph 2024 E. Guigal
Tasting
Appearance
Beautifully bright, this white wine reveals a magnificent straw-yellow hue, illuminated by subtle golden highlights.
Nose
Remarkably complex, the bouquet unveils elegant floral and woody notes. It then opens onto indulgent aromas of yellow fruits and hazelnut, underlined by a delicately integrated woody touch.
Palate
The attack is ample and generous, offering a rich and enveloping texture. The palate displays a superb balance between a fleshy fruit character, beautiful roundness and a refreshing acidity that carries through the finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with a poultry terrine, a seafood gratin or scallops. It will also elevate white meats served with cream and mushrooms, or a goat's cheese.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this wine from the Rhône Valley, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. It can be enjoyed in its youth, but will continue to develop in complexity and can be drunk until around 2034.
The elegance and richness of a white wine from the Rhône Valley by E. Guigal
The estate
Founded in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in the village of Ampuis, the E. Guigal House is an emblematic institution of the Rhône Valley. Today, the estate is run by the third generation, embodied by Philippe Guigal and his wife Eve, who perpetuate a family expertise of excellence. At the helm of a vast vineyard, the property stands out for its deep respect for terroirs, its long ageing processes and its environmental commitment certified Haute Valeur Environnementale.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the famous vineyard that historically gave its name to the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines, aged between 20 and 75 years, thrive on steep hillsides composed of gneiss and crossed by veins of granite. Cultivated according to sustainable principles and hand-harvested, this exceptional terroir yields extremely low volumes to ensure optimal concentration in the berries.
The vintage
The growing cycle preceding this cuvée was marked by contrasting weather conditions. A cool and wet spring gave way to an intense heatwave in August, followed by heavy rainfall in September, ultimately allowing a fine balance to be achieved.
Winemaking and ageing
Fermentation is carried out at a controlled temperature of around 18°C in order to preserve all the freshness and aromatic intensity of the berries. The wine then benefits from a meticulous ageing in oak barrels, split equally between new barriques and one-wine casks, all crafted in the estate's own cooperage at Château d'Ampuis.
Grape varieties
Marsanne (95%), Roussanne (5%).
