Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Gewurztraminer "Clos Windsbuhl" 2023 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals an intense pale yellow colour, a sign of controlled ripeness and preserved freshness, far from the golden hues sometimes associated with this grape variety.
Nose
The nose opens with a bouquet of exotic fruit and floral notes, enhanced by touches of citrus, notably pomelo and yellow grapefruit. A hint of liquorice completes this aromatic palette, at once generous and invigorating.
Palate
The medium-bodied palate reveals underlying richness and a refined texture. A slight sweetness is perceptible, immediately balanced by lovely tension and subtle touches of bitterness that are perfectly integrated. The finish is long and elegant, carried by a freshness rarely seen in this grape variety.
Food and Wine Pairings
This Gewurztraminer will pair ideally with Asian cuisine featuring mild spices, sweet and savoury dishes such as lacquered duck or caramelised pork, as well as powerful cheeses such as Roquefort or Munster. It also pairs very well with foie gras, whether semi-cooked or pan-seared.
Serving and Cellaring
The Gewurztraminer "Clos Windsbuhl" 2023 from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht shows great ageing potential, allowing its aromatic complexity and balance to flourish over the years.

The Estate
Founded in 1959 in Turckheim by Léonard Humbrecht and Geneviève Zind, Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is now run by Olivier and Margaret Humbrecht, joined since 2019 by their son Pierre-Émile. Olivier Humbrecht is the first Frenchman to have earned the title of Master of Wine. Based in Alsace, the estate has farmed its vines organically since 1998 and biodynamically since 2002, with particular attention paid to the expression of the terroirs that make up its vineyard holdings.
The Vineyard
This Gewurztraminer comes from the Clos Windsbuhl, a monopole of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht located in Hunawihr, in Alsace. This hillside rests on limestone soils and benefits from a late-ripening microclimate, tempered by the proximity of a forested massif. The vines, which reach fine ripeness, root deeply in this mineral terroir, contributing to the concentration and characteristic freshness of this cuvée.
Vinification and Ageing
The Gewurztraminer "Clos Windsbuhl" 2023 is vinified according to biodynamic principles, using native yeasts and slow fermentations carried out in large wooden foudres. The wine was then aged on its lees before bottling.
Grape Variety
100% Gewurztraminer.
