Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Domaine Laroche's Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2023
Tasting Notes
Nose
The bouquet needs a little time to breathe before it fully opens up. It then reveals a beautiful precision built around minerally notes of crushed stone, harmoniously blended with delicate touches of white flowers.
Palate
The attack is lively, giving way to a fruity core dominated by citrus, particularly lemon. With a genuine texture, this white wine stands out for its energy and structure, extending into a finish marked by beautiful tension.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs remarkably well with spiced dishes or matured goat cheeses. Its tension and minerality also make it the ideal companion for delicate dishes such as seafood, oysters, grilled fine fish, or light poultry.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate all the nuances of the Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2023, it is recommended to serve it chilled, at a temperature between 8 and 11°C. This wine has the structure needed to age favorably in the bottle for several years.
The Power and Finesse of a Chablis Premier Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1850 by Jean-Victor Laroche, Domaine Laroche is a landmark name in Burgundy, France. Based in the heart of the Obédiencerie, a former 9th-century monastery, it oversees a vast vineyard of around 90 hectares. A pioneer in adopting the screw cap and internationally recognised, the estate combines historical heritage with modernity. Part of the AdVini group since 2009, Domaine Laroche is now chaired by Antoine Leccia, with Jean-Baptiste Mouton serving as general manager, together upholding the excellence of these wines.
The Vineyard
The Montmains climat is an early-ripening terroir located on the left bank of the Serein, within the Chablis appellation. The vines, around fifty years old, benefit from a generous south-east exposure. They thrive on soil composed of Kimmeridgian limestone resting on a clay subsoil, a geology that gives the wines their characteristic power and texture. The estate applies sustainable farming practices here.
Winemaking and Ageing
Following hand-harvesting, the grapes undergo rigorous sorting before gentle, low-pressure pressing to extract only the free-run juice. The Chablis 1er Cru "Montmains" 2023 is fermented 30% in French oak barrels and 70% in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on fine lees for up to twelve months, in the historic cellars of the Obédiencerie.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
