Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Montlouis-sur-Loire Blanc 2024 Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups
Tasting
Colour
Pale and luminous in hue, tending towards pale yellow, this white wine is subtly enhanced by brilliant silvery and golden-green glints.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself as complex, releasing scents of white-fleshed fruit and delicate floral notes. The whole is underscored by a very pronounced mineral imprint, evoking flint and limestone.
Palate
From the very first sip, the wine shows itself to be clean and precise, carried by a lovely tension. The palate then unfolds with an ample, unctuous texture, balanced by a deep minerality. The finish lingers at length on saline accents, sweet spices and verjuice.
Food and wine pairing
Thanks to its dry profile and unctuous texture, this white wine pairs perfectly with noble fish, seafood, or white meats served with a creamy sauce.
Service and storage
This Montlouis-sur-Loire Blanc 2024 will reveal its full potential after a few years in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2036.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine stands out for its deliberate absence of malolactic fermentation, a rigorous technical choice that preserves the grape variety's natural tension and crystalline freshness.
The Pure Expression of Limestone Terroir by Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups
The estate
Formally established in 1988, Domaine de la Taille Aux Loups is a key reference point in the Loire Valley. Located in Montlouis-sur-Loire, the estate was shaped by Jacky Blot, who elevated the domaine to the highest ranks through an approach inspired by Burgundian methods and pioneering organic viticulture. Today, the vineyard spans forty-five hectares. Since 2023, his son, Jean-Philippe Blot, has been at the helm of the estate, passionately carrying on this quest for excellence and the unique identity of these great white wines.
The vineyard
The vines behind this wine flourish at the heart of the Montlouis-sur-Loire appellation. The terroir is characterised by a tuffeau bedrock, covered with clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils. South-facing, the plots benefit from optimal sun exposure. The vineyard is certified organic, with shallow ploughing encouraging the roots to dig deep into the limestone, and short pruning that drastically limits yields to favour berry concentration.
The vintage
2024 stands out as a cool vintage, offering conditions conducive to a particularly vibrant expression of the grape variety. In the commune, the average annual temperature settled at around 13.4 degrees Celsius, accompanying a growing cycle that preserved lovely tension and vibrant acidity within the grapes.
Winemaking and ageing
The making of the Montlouis-sur-Loire Blanc 2024 is based on entirely hand-picked harvests, followed by a rigorous selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in oak barrels through the exclusive action of indigenous yeasts. The wine then benefits from careful ageing, without malolactic fermentation and with an extremely light filtration, in order to respect the aromatic integrity of the fruit.
