The nose is concentrated, blending notes of ripe red fruit with touches of spice, for an aromatic expression that is both frank and precise.
Palate
The palate impresses with its length and power, underpinned by tight yet silky tannins. The whole displays a remarkable balance and purity in this vintage, characteristic of the precise, mineral style the estate stands for.
Food and Wine Pairings
L'Olivaie 2023 will pair ideally with game dishes, such as a tournedos of hare, but also works very well with roasted or braised red meats, enhanced with candied fruits and autumn vegetables.

A Saint-Joseph from Mauves with a pronounced granitic minerality
The Estate
Domaine Coursodon is a family-run estate founded in the late 19th century in Mauves, the historic cradle of the Saint-Joseph appellation in the Rhône Valley. Now run by Jérôme Coursodon, who represents the fifth generation, the estate extends over 19 hectares, of which 16.5 hectares are in Saint-Joseph. Devoted exclusively to this appellation, it tends steep granite slopes by hand, perpetuating a demanding family savoir-faire renowned for the purity and precision of its wines.
The Vineyard
L'Olivaie comes from old Syrah vines planted at very high density, around 8,500 vines per hectare, on shallow granite slopes in the Saint-Joseph appellation. Facing south and south-east, these steeply sloping plots do not allow for any mechanisation: all the work, from pruning to treatments, is carried out entirely by hand.
The Vintage
The 2023 vintage is marked by generous, balanced ripeness, favourable to the flourishing of Syrah on the granite slopes of Saint-Joseph.
Vinification and Ageing
For L'Olivaie 2023, the harvest, picked by hand into small crates, undergoes rigorous sorting before complete destemming. Maceration and fermentation take place in open vats for around 18 days, with two punch-downs daily. The wine is then aged for 15 months in oak barrels, of which approximately 15% are new, in order to preserve the purity of the fruit while adding complexity.
Grape Variety
L'Olivaie 2023 is made from Syrah.
