A Tasty Crozes-Hermitage Wine from Delas
A great red wine from the Northern Rhône Valley produced in the Crozes-Hermitage appellation by Maison Delas Frères, the Domaine des Grands Chemins 2015 is a cuvée made from grapes coming exclusively from the Domaine des Grands Chemins.
The parcels of Domaine des Grands Chemins are located on the terraces of "Chassis", near the confluence of the Rhône and Isère Rivers.
A wine coming from the great terroirs of Crozes-Hermitage, the Domaine des Grands Chemins 2015 gives pride of place to Syrah (though the blend can also include up to 15% Marsanne or Roussanne as well).
In the glass, the Crozes-Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins 2015 presents a deep colour, garnet-red with violet highlights. The olfactory palette expresses the unique character of the Chassis terroir, with slightly smoky notes and liquorice aromas that accompany more savory notes of stewed black fruits. Touches of menthol and eucalyptus complete the aromatic bouquet. On the palate, the terroir of origin is reflected in the frank attack, and the subtle balance between freshness and density. The palate evolves a silky texture with well present tannins, and a finish with beautiful persistence. A great wine from the Rhone Valley with great aging capacity.
Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2015 Crozes Hermitage Domaine des Grands Chemins represents a middle tier in Delas' Crozes hierarchy (Les Launes is the least expensive, aged exclusively in tank; Le Clos is the most expensive, aged exclusively in barrel). This wine is perhaps the most charming of the three, revealing attractive notes of dried herbs and spices on the nose, along with red berries and black cherries. It's medium-bodied and savory, marked by flavors of black olives and espresso, then it lightens again on the richly textured finish. Drink it over the next decade or so.
