Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Delas' La Landonne 2019
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour stands out with remarkable intensity, displaying the deep violet hues characteristic of the great Syrahs from Côte-Rôtie.
Nose
The bouquet reveals fine complexity dominated by black fruit, accompanied by notes of liquorice and toasted touches. Spicy nuances harmoniously complete this aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a generous, velvety texture. The tannins, both silky and firm, structure a full and fleshy palate. The finish stands out for its remarkable length, revealing fine ageing potential.
Food and wine pairing
This exceptional cuvée pairs beautifully with fine meats such as duck breast with raspberry sauce or a grilled entrecôte with herbes de Provence. It also enhances a roast leg of lamb, a Provençal daube or a spicy bouillabaisse. Game dishes, waterfowl and truffle-based preparations also make excellent pairings.
Service and storage
It is recommended to open La Landonne 2019 one to three hours before serving to allow the wine to fully express itself. The ideal serving temperature is between 16 and 18°C. This wine has remarkable ageing potential and can be kept until around 2040, with an optimal drinking window between 2028 and 2040.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5%.
An exceptional single-parcel cuvée from Côte-Rôtie
The estate
Founded in 1835 in Tournon-sur-Rhône by Charles Audibert and Philippe Delas, the House of Delas Frères stands as a key reference in the northern Rhône Valley. Since 1996, Fabrice Rosset has presided over this house, which belongs to Deutz. Alongside Jacques Grange, they lead a house that sells around two million bottles a year. Delas covers all the great Rhône appellations, favouring parcel-by-parcel winemaking and tailored ageing to reveal the identity of each terroir.
The vineyard
The Côte-Rôtie appellation spans 191 hectares across three communes on the right bank of the Rhône: Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, Ampuis and Tupin-Semons. The La Landonne cuvée comes exclusively from the eponymous lieu-dit located on the Côte Brune, in the north of the appellation. This sector is characterised by very steep terraces made up of iron-rich micaschist, covered with a schistous topsoil locally known as arzel. The moderate continental climate, marked by dry, hot summers and regular rainfall the rest of the year, favours optimal ripening of the grapes.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage in Côte-Rôtie benefited from favourable weather conditions, allowing optimal ripening of the Syrah on this exceptional terroir.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes for La Landonne 2019 are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Winemaking takes place in open concrete vats, beginning with a cold maceration of around three days. Fermentation is carried out under temperature control between 28 and 30°C, with daily punching down and pumping over for around ten days. Total maceration can last up to twenty days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels, followed by ageing for 14 to 16 months in new barrels or barrels that have previously held one wine. Regular racking allows for controlled oxygenation, promoting the maturation of the tannins.
