Description
Tasting characteristics and tips for Cordero di Montezemolo Monfalletto 2022
Tasting
Appearance
This Italian red wine displays a deep garnet-colored robe.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet blends floral and spicy notes with aromas of cherry, fresh raspberry, tobacco, and cocoa.
Palate
Rich and full, the palate reveals an elegant texture supported by silky tannins. It expresses vibrant flavors of cherry, black cherry, lemon zest, and minced ginger, stretching toward a long and flavorful finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with characterful meats such as braised beef or game (jugged hare, venison, wild boar, chamois, pigeon). It also enhances dishes featuring Alba white truffle, such as duck ravioli or a cardoon flan with fondue.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting of the Monfalletto 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, after decanting for 30 to 60 minutes. Although already very enjoyable to drink, this wine has cellaring potential allowing it to evolve in the cellar until 2052.

The estate
The winemaking history of these lands in Piedmont, Italy, began in 1340 with the Falletti family, but the commercial creation of the estate dates back to the 1830s-1840s. Passed down to the Cordero di Montezemolo family in 1941, the property is now run by Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo, supported by his children Elena and Alberto. Spanning 51 hectares, the estate stands out for its organic farming certification and its emblematic cedar of Lebanon planted in 1856. It embodies a remarkable family continuity spanning nineteen generations.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a single 28-hectare vineyard located in the hamlet of Annunziata, in the municipality of La Morra, at the heart of the Barolo appellation. Reaching an altitude of around 250 meters on gently sloping hills, these vines benefit from fully certified organic farming practices, fostering biodiversity through natural cover crops and the use of organic fertilizers.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was particularly demanding, marked by extreme weather conditions. Intense heat and a significant rainfall deficit led to severe drought, subjecting the vines to considerable water stress and causing uneven ripening across the plots.
Vinification and aging
The production of Monfalletto 2022 begins with a separate harvest and vinification for each plot. After a maceration of four to five days, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for ten to twelve days. Malolactic fermentation then occurs in wooden barrels of various sizes. Aging continues for 18 to 24 months in French and Slovenian oak barrels. After the final blending, the wine rests in the bottle for at least one year before being released.
