Description

A powerful and aromatic Saint-Emilion wine by Château Troplong Mondot

The estate

On the right bank of Bordeaux, where most properties hardly exceed 10 hectares, Château Troplong Mondot is one of the largest estates in Saint-Émilion. Founded in 1700, Château Troplong Mondot, Premier Grand Cru Classé, is at the top of the Saint-Emilion appellation.

The vineyard

Culminating at an altitude of 110 metres and producing fine Saint-Emilion wines, Château Troplong Mondot reigns over a single block vineyard that covers 33 hectares. The vineyard is entirely managed using integrated viticultural practices. The vines are on average 20 years old and are grown on clay-limestone soils typical of the Saint-Emilion appellation.

The vintage

Following a dry and mild winter, the weather conditions from January to June were marked by rain and mildness. The budburst was early and, despite the rainfall, the flowering was regular and uniform. The summer that followed was extremely hot and dry. The back end of the season was magnificent and allowed the berries to ripen to perfection. The harvest took place from the 3rd to the 27th of October.

Vinification and ageing

The vinification includes pumping over, releasing and punching down. The duration of vatting is 21 to 35 days. The wine is aged in barrels (77% of which are new) for 12 to 24 months. Final blending at the end of the ageing process.

The blend

Merlot (90%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (8%)
Cabernet Franc (2%).
