Description
An elegant and aromatic red wine from Francs Côtes de Bordeaux
The estate
Owned by Mathieu and Anne-Laurence Chadronnier, Château Marsau sits on the highest ground of the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, east of Saint-Émilion. In conversion to organic farming since 2018, this 13.60-hectare vineyard is planted on clay soils, ideal for expressing Merlot, the flagship grape variety of the Right Bank in Bordeaux.
The wine
2018 is a landmark year for Château Marsau. While it marks the start of the vineyard's conversion to organic farming, the 2018 vintage was also hit by very heavy mildew pressure.
Mathieu and Anne-Laurence Chadronnier called on designer Ronan Bouroullec to pay tribute to this vintage, which despite extreme conditions gave rise to a vibrant, deep, sensual, enveloping and fragrant wine.
This initiative brings together two worlds with a great deal in common. Crafting a wine, like creating a work of art, awakens each of the senses through substance, structure and the pursuit of beauty. Ronan Bouroullec shares his interpretation of the estate's history and of this vintage through 3 labels that refer to the forms of life essential to the creation of a wine:
“Below”: the clay soil, with its furrows, texture and depth.
“Above”: plant life, whose varied forms are a source of inspiration, renewal and light.
“Within”: the fruit, which seduces with its softness, sensuality, finesse and fragrance.
