Description
The Balance and Minerality of a Great White Wine from Pessac-Léognan
With only 1.5 hectares planted with white grape varietals, Château Lespault-Martillac is one of the beautiful references of the great terroir of Martillac.
In the charming style of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, located in the south of the Bordeaux region, the Château Lespault-Martillac 2017 displays the profile of an excellent vintage, in which purity and minerality are expressed in perfect harmony. The 2017 vintage has indeed been a year of challenges. The vineyards of Château Lespault-Martillac were not spared by the frosts of April 25 and 29. However, the climatic conditions that followed made possible for the vines to continue in their usual vegetative cycle, until arriving at optimum phenolic maturity. Although the harvest was early, the grapes were very healthy, presenting a superb aromatic freshness, with an ideal balance between sugar and acidity. A sacrifice in quantity has revealed an excellence in quality for this delicate vintage.
Blending 80% Sauvignon blanc and 20% Sémillon, the Château Lespault-Martillac 2017 reveals a generous character with an intensely fruity quality. The lushness of Sémillon adapts perfectly to the aromatic freshness of Sauvignon. On the palate, a vivacious body combines with the same delicious fruity perceived on the nose. The wine offers not any ounce of heaviness and a persistent finish with a beautiful minerality. A superb vintage for a great wine reflecting the style of the estate.
