Château La Lagune 2021

Floral notes mingle with cherry, cassis, roasted nuances and a touch of whipped cream. Juicy and fresh, with ultra-fine tannins and plenty of red berry fruit, this is a delicate La Lagune that will offer pleasure early and finishes on sour cherry.

The 2021 La Lagune has turned out nicely in bottle, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, spices and truffles, followed by a medium- to full-bodied, velvety and seamless palate with good depth of fruit, lively acids and sweet tannins.

Perfumed and nicely scented on the nose, fresh rose petals and raspberries. Clean and precise, a lovely clarity to the expression—crystalline—with a softly mouthwatering strawberry-juicy core: half tangy, half quite mineral, which, when added to the salty tannins, gives a chalky, almost dry wet-stone finish. Easy to drink, just missing a touch more spark and vibrancy, but with good structure.

This shows aromas of black currants, dried herbs, paprika, orange zest and tobacco leaves. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained, polished tannins. Silky, elegant and long. 70% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot and 10% petit verdot. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink after 2024.

The 2021 La Lagune put in a decent showing out of barrel. I tasted it from two bottles, the first rejected as it felt slightly corked. The second is fresher with blackberry and raspberry fruit, cedar and light cigar box scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry, berry and graphite notes and some attenuation toward the finish. Nonetheless, it is a decent, classically styled La Lagune that will hopefully gain more weight with bottle age.

Medium-bodied, elegant, racy, crisp and light on its feet, here the bright red fruits and floral accents on the nose and palate steal the show, finishing with a minty freshness and a savory edge to the fruits on the endnote. Drink from 2025-2042.

Dark ruby garnet colour with purple reflections, subtle ochre rim. Delicate notes of blackberries and cassis, fine tobacco nuances with candied orange zest in the background. Medium complexity, red cherries, subtle sweetness, fine acidity, mineral, a lively food wine.

An estate that continues to punch above its weight, the 2021 Château La Lagune sports a deep ruby/plum hue as well as a terrific bouquet of ripe black fruits, cassis, graphite, and scorched earth. One of the most serious, concentrated, age-worthy Haut-Médocs in the vintage, it has medium-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mid-palate, background oak, and ripe tannins. Give it 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade or more. This is one that's well worth seeking out.

Precision and fresh acidities mark the opening of this wine, with plenty of blueberry and redcurrant fruit, fine tannins edged with peony, aniseed, fennel and cumin adding depth. An appealing wine with finesse, holding its line within the vintage. 30 hl/ha yield. Tasted twice.

La Lagune 2021 was produced organically and it has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is a tad closed and broody to start, needing swirling to bring out notes of tar, crushed rocks, and garrigue, followed by a core of redcurrants and black cherries. The medium-bodied palate has a pleasant chewiness to the texture and plenty of vivacity, finishing on a lingering, earthy note.

This cuvée, predominantly Cabernet, also includes 10% Petit Verdot, which gives this 2021 fine backbone and a sapid touch on the finish. The texture is elegant, with a silky feel and plenty of brightness.

A nose full of character, with a dark, smoky, generous and complex aromatic profile. Pure and juicy on the palate, it launches into a deep whirlwind of black fruits. A charming wine, brimming with life.

The notion of precision is emphasized more than ever. Before being a Haut-Médoc or even a Margaux, this wine is a La Lagune, with its complexity and its ability to reveal itself in a filigreed yet complex manner. Its slender profile is confidently supported by the tannins, which provide structure while accommodating the acidity and creating a symbiosis with it. A complete wine: precise, elegant, and refined. Supple on the attack, silky mid-palate with a lovely texture; the wine broadens on the finish, precise, sapid and long, with a fine fruity weave. Blend: 70% cabernet sauvignon, 20% merlot, 10% petit verdot. Alcohol: 13%. Yield: 30 hl/ha.

A restrained bouquet—this is not a wine that leads with exuberance. On the palate, it has more to say: a supple, sinuous outline over a soft, caressing flesh. Its tannins are finely brushed, supported by well-controlled acidity. The texture is firm and elegantly elongated.
