A Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, Château Franc Mayne enjoys an exceptional location in the prestigious appellation. Owned by the Savare family since 2018, Château Franc Mayne is enjoying a great momentum of renewal. The property is beautifully represented by the signature style of its wines, which reveal a pure expression of the Saint-Emilion terroir and a great freshness.
The Château Franc Mayne vineyard extends over 7 hectares of vines, of which 5.68 are used for production, with a magnificent location on the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion. The vines, aged by 20 years on average, are planted on a hillside of clay and sandy clay soils.
2020 was a trying vintage, both for the vineyard and for the teams who work on it in the context of the estate’s organic conversion. The significant humidity during spring led to high phytosanitary pressure. Although, subsequently, the exceptionally hot and dry conditions affected the vineyard, the teams’ work on supporting the vine cycle and preserving the harvest proved to be beneficial. The harvested grapes were of a good quality, magnifying the richness and all of the potential of the Château Franc Mayne terroir.
The 2020 Château Franc Mayne is 100% Merlot.
Ageing in barrels (50% new barrels, 50% in vats, amphorae and barrels of one previous wine).
The wine is a strong, violet colour.
Rich and precise, the nose blends floral notes of iris with a mineral touch and fragrances of red fruits and ginger.
Lively and wonderfully deep, the generous palate unveils tight tannins, a silky touch as well as a refreshing and tight persistence. The palate echoes the nose, breathing out sweet, tasty notes of liquorice and cocoa bean.
