Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for La Grande Pièce 2024 from Château de Plaisance
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a luminous colour, ranging from pale yellow to light gold, enhanced by delicate green or golden highlights.
Nose
Intense and remarkably complex, the aromatic bouquet reveals scents of white and yellow fruits, mingled with citrus notes and spring flowers. The ensemble is further enriched by touches of honey and brioche, along with a mineral character reminiscent of flint and warm stone.
Palate
The palate offers a rich, fleshy and creamy texture, perfectly balanced by a mouth-watering acidity and beautiful phenolic tension. A slight bitterness lends structure to this rich matter, leading into a vibrant, pure finish of remarkable length and deep salinity.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great gastronomic white wine pairs beautifully with scrambled eggs with porcini mushrooms, a Thai butternut squash curry, or gnocchi with aged Comté cheese. It will also beautifully complement fine fish, poultry in creamy sauces, or pressed cooked cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully appreciate the complexity of La Grande Pièce 2024, it is recommended to decant the wine before serving it at a temperature between 10 and 12 °C. This cuvée, crafted for ageing, can be enjoyed until around 2034.
A Loire White Wine by Château de Plaisance
The Estate
Boasting more than a century of history, Château de Plaisance is located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in the heart of the Loire Valley. Owned by the Rochais family since the 1960s, this 25-hectare estate is now run by Vanessa Cherruau, a young winemaker from Anjou. A pioneer in ecological practices, the estate stands out for its vineyard, which is exclusively planted with prestigious crus. Under the guidance of its current owner, the estate continues its rise in quality, establishing itself as a leading name in its region.
The Vineyard
Made from a micro-plot of around 0.8 hectares located on the Chaume hillside, this cuvée showcases the great terroirs of the black Anjou. The vines, over fifty years old and trained using the Guyot-Poussard method, thrive on shallow soils composed of sandstone and puddingstone. The estate has been certified organic since 1995, biodynamic since 2008, and has held the LPO label since 2019 in recognition of its efforts in favour of biodiversity.
Winemaking and Ageing
The grapes used for La Grande Pièce 2024 are hand-harvested into small crates after rigorous sorting in the vineyard. At the winery, slow, cold pressing is carried out to preserve the purity of the juices. Fermentation begins naturally through indigenous yeasts, accompanied by a partial malolactic fermentation. Ageing then continues for 12 to 15 months, combining mostly used oak barrels with neutral vessels such as amphorae or sandstone jars.
