Description
The elegance and minerality of a white wine from Barsac by Château Closiot
The Estate
Located in the Bordeaux region, Château Closiot began a new chapter in its history when it was acquired in 2017 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine, the current owners. Already renowned for their expertise, they apply their exacting philosophy to this eight-hectare estate. By challenging certain local traditions, the estate stands out for its distinctive approach to producing sweet wines that combine concentration, balance and freshness, quickly establishing itself as a benchmark of quality within its appellation.
The Vineyard
Located within the Barsac appellation, the Clos Bonneau terroir benefits from a distinctive geology. The soils are made up of red clay and pebbles resting on a limestone bedrock, promoting excellent drainage and a fine mineral complexity. The vines, averaging around fifty years of age, enjoy a southwest exposure. To regulate the region's natural humidity, cereals are planted between the rows to create water competition, thereby limiting berry dilution.
Grape Variety
This cuvée showcases Sémillon, the signature grape variety that dominates the making of this wine.
Winemaking and Aging
The making of the Bonneau 2024 relies on morning harvesting under the sun to concentrate the botrytis. The berries undergo six rigorous sorting passes before gentle vertical pressing. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, with the remainder consisting of barrels one year old or more. Aging continues on the lees, allowing the wine to develop its aromatic complexity and stability over the months.
