Decanter

Lots of fragrant floral aromatics on the nose, smells so vivid and expressive along with mint, blackcurrant leaf, pepper and tobacco. Supple and generous, immediately both energetic and plush with great tannins, great lift and focus. Joyful and full of red berry juice with chalky tannins that fill the mouth. Spice comes in on the finish. Plump yet also has an element of cool crispness. I like this – it’s elegant and refined while still being mouthwatering and juicy. Great stuff that makes you smile. Salty with a slightly reserved nature but still giving such flavour and complexity. Earliest ever harvest (started 4 September). A yield of 34hl/ha. Ageing 100% in oak (60% new).

Deep in color, the wine exudes aromas of licorice, flowers, black cherries, espresso, plums, herbs, and chocolate with a single swirl. The palate is even better, with waves of opulent, lush, soft, polished, expressive, and fresh fruit. The balance among depth, sweetness, flesh, and lift is exactly where it needs to be. The finish is defined by the intensity of the vibrant fruit on the palate, depth of flavor, and purity. The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. 14% ABV, 3.65 pH. Harvesting took place September 4 September 17. This is the earliest harvest in the history of the estate. Yields were 34 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2029-2060. 96-98 Pts

Concentrated and intense, dried figs, high spice, freshly cut herbs, incense, cardamon, dried rose petal, pot pourri, this has fragrance that builds thorugh the palate, plenty of tannic grip that just flirts with being dry. A concentrated Clinet with impact. 30 hl/ha. Tasted twice. Ronan Laborde owner.

Still strongly influenced by oak aging, the bouquet reveals toasted notes complemented by smoky nuances, then, with aeration, aromas of very ripe black berries and sweet spices. The creamy character of the attack gives way to a broad, vibrant palate where power and austerity must come together in harmony. What may not seem obvious at first is nevertheless perfectly integrated by this wine, which stands out for its density and generosity.

Deep, dark color. An intense, fruity, subtle nose, with a hint of resin. Broad on the attack, juicy on the mid-palate, with plenty of flavor and abundant, finely textured richness, the wine slowly develops into a long finish that is complex, dense, airy, fresh and irresistibly moreish. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Alcohol: 14%.

Vinum

Still somewhat marked by the ageing, with a pronounced toasty note and great depth: dark fruit, plenty of florality, mineral accents—an aroma you can truly sink into; a creamy opening, full-bodied and round, then more linear through the mid-palate, very compact, supported by masses of silky-smooth tannins; the acidity is impressive, bringing lightness, drinkability and freshness; red-fruited on the finish, with spicy notes and a salty edge. A highly elegant Clinet.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of Château Clinet 2025

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a deep, dense and particularly bright ruby colour, with an almost opaque core and purple highlights.

Nose
Highly expressive, it unveils an intense bouquet dominated by aromas of wild strawberry, morello cherry, plum, blackberry and blackcurrant.

Palate
Generous and velvety, the palate offers a rich and creamy texture supported by tannins of great finesse. The aromatics unfold flavours of perfectly ripe fruit, spices and delicate pastry notes. The whole is distinguished by a perfect balance between beautiful sun-kissed richness, tension and great freshness, signing a classic, intense and profound expression.

Food and wine pairings

This great red wine will pair wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a rib of beef or a rack of lamb. It will also enhance game dishes such as venison stew, wild boar ragout, or characterful poultry like pigeon or duck, especially when accompanied by mushrooms, robust reductions or truffles.

Serving and cellaring

Endowed with a solid structure and lovely balance, this vintage has excellent ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2045.

A Pomerol wine blending sun-kissed richness and classic elegance

The estate

Established in the 16th century on the heights of Pomerol and founded in its modern form in 1883, Château Clinet is a historic and essential property of the Bordeaux region. Spanning approximately 11.5 hectares, this human-sized vineyard now combines traditional know-how with cutting-edge technology. Led for more than twenty years by Ronan Laborde, who represents the owning family, the estate has established itself as a benchmark name on the Right Bank. The exacting standards applied at every stage make it possible to produce wines of great precision, faithful to the identity of their prestigious terroir.

The vineyard

Covering 10.2 hectares in production, the vineyard flourishes on the famous open and well-ventilated plateau of Pomerol, an ideal location to resist humidity and frost. The vines are rooted in a mosaic of clay and gravel soils. The estate stands out for its very old vines, derived from a massal selection, with Merlot vines aged 91 years and Cabernet Sauvignon vines aged 75 years. A high foliage surface, reaching more than 1.75 metres, promotes optimal concentration in the grapes.

The vintage

The year was marked by a particularly hot and dry season, with rainfall below 700 mm compared to the usual average of 900 mm. After a mild and dry winter followed by a wet early spring, a warm May allowed for an early flowering under ideal conditions. Summer proved extremely hot and arid, producing very small berries and a very low yield. The harvest thus began with record-breaking earliness, running from 4 to 17 September.

Winemaking and ageing

Due to the small size of the berries and their concentration, particularly gentle extractions were favoured during vinification. Ageing extends over a period of approximately 18 months in barrels, with a proportion of 60% new oak barrels and 40% one-wine barrels.
