Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for the Caisse Les Intemporels III 1995-2000-2005 from Château Angelus
Tasting
1995
Favorable weather conditions and controlled yields allowed the grapes to reach high ripeness, with perfect balance. The wines are deeply colored, almost opaque, offering aromas of stewed prune, blackberry jelly, spices and cedar. The high proportion of Cabernet Franc (50%) brings minty tannins, combining freshness, elegance and complexity. The silky, generous palate stretches into a long, smooth and harmonious finish, promising excellent aging potential.
2000
The Merlots (60%), very fruit-forward, lush and balanced, are blended with Cabernet Francs (40%) at slight overripeness. The wines display a deep black-purple color and a nose of blackberry, plum and blackcurrant, lifted by smoky notes and licorice. The palate is broad and remarkably concentrated, carried by superb tannic structure; the richness/acidity balance brings great freshness. A vintage built for very long aging.
2005
Born of a blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc, this vintage comes from a unique year marked by a very significant water deficit, offset by temperatures favorable to ripening. The grapes stand out for their memorable quality, both in terms of health and balance. The vintage offers great harmony, combining power and freshness, with remarkable aromatic precision.
Château Angélus presents a case set of three great vintages
The estate
Founded in 1782, the Château Angélus is an iconic Bordeaux estate, located in Saint-Émilion. Spanning 32 hectares, it has been run by the de Boüard family for 8 generations. The vineyard, planted mainly with Cabernet Franc and Merlot, benefits from a unique clay-limestone terroir on the southern slope of Saint-Émilion. The name "Angélus" comes from the bells of the neighboring churches, symbolizing the estate’s heritage and identity.
The vineyard
Located on the southern slope of Saint-Émilion, on the "pied de côte", the vineyard of Château Angélus thrives on a clay-limestone terroir particularly suited to expressing Bordeaux grape varieties. The vines average 39 years old.
The case set
« Vintages follow one another and are never the same. That is the magic of a great terroir in constant motion, enriched by capricious weather: each of these years writes the story of Angelus. »
True to this philosophy, the estate presents « Les Intemporels », three case sets bringing together three bottles of great rarity, beautifully matured, bearing witness to historic vintages that trace the evolution of this essential Right Bank Bordeaux property.
The case set named « Les Intemporels III » brings together three recent vintages—1995, 2000 and 2005—considered one of the greatest in the contemporary history of Bordeaux wines.
