Au Pied du Mont Chauve : Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Les Chaumées" 2019

Endowed with ripe fruit. Its richness is expressed through more confit-like fruit, ripe tannins, yet always with fine-grained texture. A very beautiful, deep, and refined red.

Layers of char and smoke cast a veil over pert red-cherry and plum flavors in this generously oaked wine matured 12 months in 30% new French barrels. Satiny in texture and held upright by fine, firm tannins, the wine needs time to express itself fully. Approach from 2024. It should improve through at least 2035.

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées 1er Cru Rouge has a light airy bouquet with Morello cherries and crushed strawberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with quite firm tannins, a mixture of red/black fruit with a saline undercurrant. It just feels a little "blocky" towards the finish that has just a little dryness.
