Description

Tasting notes and serving suggestions for the 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay from Au Pied du Mont Chauve

Tasting

Color
The wine shows a bright pale yellow hue, enlivened by vibrant green highlights.

Nose
The bouquet reveals lovely aromatic complexity, with notes of ripe white-fleshed fruits such as pear and peach, complemented by citrus nuances. Delicate touches of butter and vanilla harmoniously round out this aromatic profile.

Palate
On the palate, the texture is both silky and taut. White-fleshed fruit flavors intertwine with notes of light brioche, supported by a refreshing minerality. The finish remains balanced and precise, the hallmark of the vintage.

Food and wine pairings

This 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay pairs perfectly with roasted poultry, whether chicken or turkey. It also elegantly accompanies seafood, grilled fish or fish in a creamy sauce, as well as soft cheeses.

Serving and cellaring

To fully enjoy this 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 10 and 12°C.

A Burgundian chardonnay combining freshness and complexity

The estate

Daughter of one of Burgundy’s greatest winegrowing families, Francine Picard took over in the late 1990s the estate historically run by her father. Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve stretches across the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin, at the heart of some of the finest climats and terroirs of winegrowing Burgundy.

Driven by a desire for synergy between the land and the wines, Francine Picard cultivates her parcels in keeping with biodynamic principles and applies, with passion and the utmost attention, herself to producing wines that reflect the identity of their terroir. From a 110-hectare vineyard farmed using “agroecology,” the chardonnay and pinot noir of Domaine Au Pied du Mont Chauve are recognized for their quality, precision and elegance. Since May 2019, Antoine Lepetit de la Bigne, a specialist in biodynamic viticulture, has joined the Domaine team as Technical Director.

The vineyard

This Bourgogne wine comes from a rigorous selection of estate parcels, planted in the 1980s and farmed organically.

The vintage

The year 2022 was marked by late budbreak, which protected the vines from April frosts. The vintage experienced four heatwaves and pronounced drought. These conditions gave rise to supple, rounded and complex white wines, with fine concentration and remarkable balance, offering fresh fruit aromas and pleasant vibrancy.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested grapes. After pneumatic pressing of whole clusters for 2 hours 30 minutes, the juice is clarified in a stainless-steel tank at 12°C overnight. The must is then transferred directly into barrels for alcoholic fermentation. The 2022 Bourgogne Chardonnay is aged for 18 months on lees, including 12 months in second-fill Burgundian barrels (Damy cooperage) for 30% of the harvest, followed by 6 months in stainless-steel tank, while the remaining 70% is aged exclusively in stainless-steel tank.

Grape variety

100% chardonnay.
