Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Rossj-Bass 2024 by Angelo Gaja

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a bright and luminous straw-yellow robe, adorned with subtle greenish reflections.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with delicate notes of white flowers, jasmine and elderflower, mingled with citrus aromas such as grapefruit. Hints of white-fleshed fruits like pear, nectarine and melon intertwine with nuances of papaya and a discreet touch of honey.

Palate
The palate stands out with a vivid and incisive acidity that structures a firm and silky texture. The body is elegant and deep, leading to a persistent, fresh finish marked by saline minerality and light minty accents.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with delicate grilled or roasted fish, such as sea bass, sea bream or turbot, as well as shellfish like scallops and langoustines. It also perfectly accompanies poultry in a light cream sauce, asparagus or seafood risotto, as well as goat's cheeses or lightly aged pressed-curd cheeses.

Serving and cellaring
Endowed with excellent ageing potential, the Rossj-Bass 2024 can be enjoyed in its youth to take full advantage of its vibrant freshness, or kept in the cellar for approximately five to eight years to develop additional aromatic complexity.

The elegance of a great white wine from Piedmont crafted by Angelo Gaja

The estate
Founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja in Barbaresco, this historic estate is a true benchmark in Piedmont. Today, the domaine is still in the hands of the founding family, with Angelo Gaja as owner and chairman, supported by his daughter Gaia. Renowned for having modernised regional viticulture while championing the notion of single-vineyard cru, the estate has firmly established its reputation on the international stage. Uncompromising quality and family continuity make this house an essential emblem of Italian winemaking excellence.

The vineyard
The grapes dedicated to this Rossj-Bass 2024 cuvée come from several plots located in the heart of the Langhe, spread across the communes of Barbaresco, Serralunga d'Alba and Trezzo. The historic vineyard, whose first vines were planted in 1984, notably includes the Rossj plots, named in honour of Rossana, the daughter of Angelo and Lucia, as well as Bass. This diversity of terroirs, combining various altitudes and marl-limestone soils, makes it possible to obtain grapes with optimal ripeness while preserving a beautiful mineral tension.

Winemaking and ageing
To craft the Rossj-Bass 2024, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at low temperature, between 16 and 18°C, for approximately four weeks. The wine is then transferred into lightly used oak barrels to complete its malolactic fermentation. Ageing continues in these same barrels for six to seven months, bringing complexity and volume on the palate without ever masking the purity of the fruit.

Grape varieties
This wine is the result of a blend made up of approximately 95% Chardonnay and 5% Sauvignon Blanc.
