Description
The structure and refinement of a Corsican Red wine
The estate
Winemakers from father to son, at Leccia the wine is undeniably a family story. Son, grandson, great-grandson of winemakers, Yves Leccia naturally pursues this path and thus creates his own estate with his partner Sandrine in 2005. Located in the north of Corsica, in the heart of the Patrimonio appellation, the estate now oversees 15 hectares of vines on the sublime plots of E Croce and Partinelone. Freshness, minerality, purity of fruit are expressed at the heart of the passionate winemaker’s cuvées, an invitation to discover the finest jewels of the Patrimonio appellation.
The vineyard
E Croce Rouge is a Patrimonio wine from a vineyard benefiting from an ideal location on hillsides facing the Mediterranean Sea. The schist and limestone soil and the Mediterranean climate that influences it offer ideal conditions for the cultivation of local grape varieties. Sustainable and environmentally friendly viticultural practices are at the heart of the estate’s philosophy, and the vineyard is thus managed organically.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted. After harvest, the berries are destemmed and crushed, then placed in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, typically between 25 and 30°C, for a period of 12 to 15 days. After draining off, the berries undergo pressing, and then the free-run and press juices are blended. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 15 to 20 days. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks.
Blend
E Croce 2022 by Yves Leccia is the result of a blend of niellucciu (90%) and grenache (10%).
