The Viñedo Chadwick vineyard in the Maipo Valley was originally Don Alfonso Chadwick’s personal polo field, to whom the resulting wine is dedicated as a tribute. Viñedo Chadwick is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and is the flagship cuvée of Viña Seña. The hot, dry 2020 vintage posed a challenge for vineyard work. Dark core of color, pale rim. On the bouquet, the 2020 Viñedo Chadwick shows highly nuanced Cabernet fruit—layered, delicate, cool, and refined. Dense, spicy, and finely structured, it also shows on the palate, with a racy attack, plenty of structure, and slightly austere tannins. Everything is geared toward breed and fresh presence; thus, in terms of body and fullness, Viñedo Chadwick seems rather slightly delicate. Could gain further with time. 13% abv.

The estate

Since 1870, when Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in the Aconcagua Valley, the Chadwick family has carried on a passion for producing great Chilean wines.

Located in the Puente Alto D.O. in the Maipo Valley, Viñedo Chadwick honours the memory of Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz, father of Eduardo Chadwick. A passionate visionary, Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz founded Chile's first wine brokerage house in the early 1930s and, in 1942, acquired nearly 300 hectares of fields and vineyards, determined to modernise Chilean winemaking and play an active role in building its reputation. After taking over the management of Viña Errázuriz in 1983, Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz was joined by his son Eduardo, who, since his father's death in 1993, has continued the family's quest for excellence and its passion for producing great wines from the Central Valley.

Don Alfonso Chadwick Errázuriz was also renowned as one of the finest polo players in Chilean history. Devoted to the sport, he built his own polo field on the family estate. Two of its goalposts still stand on this land, which has since become a vineyard plot producing exceptional wines in his honour.

The vineyard

Viñedo Chadwick tends a 15-hectare vineyard of Cabernet Sauvignon planted in 1992, which yields great Central Valley wines produced in limited quantities and internationally acclaimed for their refinement, freshness and elegance. At the iconic "Berlin Tasting" in 2004, Chadwick Vineyard 2000, the estate's second vintage, was ranked first, ahead of Italian Super Tuscans and Bordeaux Premiers Grands Crus. In May 2016, Viñedo Chadwick 2014 was awarded 100/100 by critic James Suckling.

The vintage

2020 was a year marked by particularly hot, dry conditions. The expertise and rigour of the estate's teams produced a great vintage, aromatic and well balanced.
