United States Of America

The main wine-growing regions composing the United States vineyard are California, the State of Washington , Oregon and the State of New York. 9,000 domains are also called wineries, which majority is located in California. 90% of the wine production takes place in this emblematic region. This state benefits from an international reputation, especially thanks to the Napa Valley where famous domains are gathered, such as Opus One. The West Coast has an oceanic, even mediterranean climate whereas on the East Coast, the vineyards are subjected to a continental climate, similar to the one in Germany or Austria.

Made from 68% Syrah, 17% Mourvedre and 15% Grenache, it shows plenty of Mourvedre savoriness to go with ample red and black fruits, smoked meats and a touch of olive tapenade. Like all of Matt's 2013s, it's seamless and perfectly balanced, with lots to love. Drink it anytime over the coming 8-10 years.

  • Excellent 2013 Opus One Vintage

The 2013 Opus One is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot,  6% Petit Verdot, and 2% Malbec.

This offering reveals splendid notes of currant and blackberries complimented with rose flower, anise, and gingerbread nuances. Creamy attack evolving into lovely depth. Coated, smooth tannins cover the palate with fresh black fruit flavours. The 2013 Opus One is elegant, balanced, sharp and structured. The finish is persistent with hints of dark chocolate.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2013 Opus One, a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, is a beauty. Velvety textured, without a had edge to be found, notes of crème de cassis, blueberry, subtle wood and floral notes gently rise from the wine's dense purple color. Beautifully full-bodied and extraordinarily elegant and pure, this is certainly one of their great achievements over the last 37 years. The wine has an exquisite finish and can be drunk now or cellared for 25-30 years.

  • 2014 Paso Robles, California.

L'Aventure winery is a Paso Robles reference. The estate is located in the heart of the appellation, near the California State Route 46. The 2014 Estate Cuvee is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Syrah, 15% Petit verdot
This wine offers a wonderful bouquet of complex aromas such as blackcurrant, grilled spices, graphite, humid earth, and herbs flavours. Thick and full-bodied, the 2014 Estate Cuvee of L'Aventure reveals an unctuous yet elegant and pure palate.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
A massive, gorgeously rich and decadent version of this cuvee, the 2014 Estate Cuvee (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Syrah and 15% Petit Verdot) is reminiscent of a 2005 Pomerol with its huge bouquet of cassis, toasted spice, graphite, damp earth and leafy herb aromas and flavors. Thick, full-bodied, unctuous and palate-saturating, yet still with purity and grace, it's an insanely good Bordeaux blend (or close) from Paso Robles that will have two decades of overall longevity.

A blend from all of the sites Guillaume works with, the 2014 Fleur de Solene (70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Cabernet Franc) is another winner from this guy who can do no wrong. Loaded with notes of plums, exotic flowers, mint and hints of green herbs, this medium to full-bodied, rich and beautifully textured 2014 is ready to go, but should keep nicely through at least 2024.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
Already in bottle, the 2014 Hommage A Nos Pairs is another huge, unctuous and petal to the metal effort that's overflowing with notions of creme de cassis, caramelized black cherries, toasty oak and creamy licorice. Coming from limestone and shale soils and a blend of 95% Syrah, 3% Grenache and 2% Viognier, from tiny yields, it stays fresh and lively, has no hard edges and a soft, supple, hard to resist personality. Drink it over the coming 7-8 years.

A blend of 40% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache and 30% Syrah, the 2013 Cote a Cote is a classic Rhone blend from Paso that has lots of blackberry, cassis, ground pepper and damp earth aromatics, full-bodied richness and both good acidity and tannic grip. Showing more complex floral characteristics and chalky minerality with time in the glass, it can be enjoyed now or cellared for a decade.

Just bottled, the 2012 Ditch Digger checks in as a blend of 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and the balance Cinsault and Counoise. Fermented with 50% whole clusters and aged 80% in used 500-liter barrels and the balance in concrete, it offers a southern Rhone-like bouquet of kirsch and blackberry fruits, ground herbs, pepper and spiced meats. This flows to a full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and yet fresh and elegant wine that will have upward of a decade of longevity.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
A brilliant wine from winemaker Chris Carpenter and the Kendall-Jackson family, this blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot, mostly coming from mountain vineyards owned by the Jackson family, is fabulous. The 2013 Cardinale Proprietary Red Wine is dense purple-colored, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis as well as licorice, blackberry and espresso are all present in this full-bodied, rather sublime and intense Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 25 or more years. This was aged in about 91% new French oak for 18-20 months prior to bottling. It is certainly one of the finest Cardinales I have tasted in my experience.

  • An elegant, rich and complex red from Sonoma County

From 4 different vineyards (Alexander Valley, Bennett Valley, Chalk Hill and Knights Valley) with volcanic soils, varying altitudes and vines that are the same age (approximately 25 for Alexander Valley, 11 for Bennett Valley, 15 for Chalk Hill and 20 for Knights Valley), "Muse" from Verite is a red produced in the Sonoma County appellation of California. The wine is matured in new French oak barrels, for 15 months (on average). "Muse" 2013 is a blend of 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec.

"Muse" 2013 from Verite presents a beautiful deep red colour. The nose develops rich and spicy aromas, with notes of undergrowth. Flavours of truffleliquorice and cherry are present in the mouth. The finish is long and persistent with elegant tannins. A wine known for its complex energy. To be enjoyed throughout 2034-2044.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2013 La Muse, like all of the 2013s, comes about one-third from Alexander Valley vineyards, 40-plus percent from Chalk Hill, and the rest Knights Valley and Bennett Valley - all high-elevation hillside vineyards. A blend of 89% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Malbec at 14.3% alcohol, the wine is amazingly like a great vintage of Petrus, with mulberry, black cherry, licorice, truffle and unctuous, thick, juicy fruit all present in this full-bodied masterpiece. The tannins are still present. The wine has purity and savory presence and is remarkable. The finish goes on for well past a minute. This wine would probably benefit from 5-8 years of bottle age and last 40-50 years.

The 2010 The Maiden reveals lots of cedarwood, licorice, forest floor, black and red currant, loamy, earthy notes and a touch of background oak. Elegant, pure, layered, medium to full-bodied, and rich in fruit with no hard edges, it should be enjoyed over the next 15+ years.
