Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Les Vieux Clos 2024 cuvée by Nicolas Joly
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals a brilliant pale yellow hue, illuminated by delicate golden highlights.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of ripe yellow fruit, reminiscent of apple and quince, harmoniously blended with notes of white flowers and honey. Subtle mineral touches evoking wet stone complete this complex nose.
Palate
Remarkably pure, the palate reveals a generous, structured body, supported by lovely tension. The acidity balances the richness of the fruit, leading to a persistent, vibrant and delicately saline finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs wonderfully with white meats in sauce, such as a veal blanquette with girolles or poultry with mousserons. It also elevates fish in beurre blanc, shellfish such as lobster in sauce, as well as goat's cheese or an aged Cantal.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature between 7 and 10 °C, decanting it beforehand to release its full complexity. It can be enjoyed now, but will continue to flourish in the cellar and can be drunk until around 2035.
The authenticity of a great Loire Chenin Blanc
The estate
Located in the Loire Valley, the historic vineyard was founded in 1130 by Cistercian monks. Acquired in 1962 by the Joly family, the estate has become a true global reference thanks to Nicolas Joly, an emblematic pioneer of biodynamics since the 1980s. Today, his daughter Virginie Joly oversees the winemaking, perpetuating a family philosophy deeply rooted in respect for all living things and the authentic expression of terroir. The estate is renowned for its vibrant wines, crafted without artifice, which embody the truth of taste.
The vineyard
The estate extends across schistous slopes within the Savennières Coulée de Serrant appellation. The vines thrive in shallow soils composed of schist, quartz and sand. Cultivation is entirely manual and carried out according to the principles of biodynamics, encouraging deep rooting and exceptional vine vitality.
Winemaking and ageing
True to the estate's non-interventionist approach, this wine is crafted with the utmost care. After hand-harvesting at perfect ripeness, fermentations start naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Ageing then takes place in tanks and in barrels that have held several wines, entirely excluding new oak in order to preserve the aromatic purity of the fruit.
