Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Appearance
Deep, brilliant red in colour, this wine catches the light with elegance.
Nose
The bouquet opens with intense aromas of black cherry and blueberry, accompanied by delicate notes of rose petals, dried flowers and orange blossom. Subtle touches of graphite, vanilla and cigar box complete this ensemble with a beautiful mineral freshness.
Palate
The palate offers a lovely balance between power and finesse. Refreshing acidity balances a silky, generous texture on the mid-palate. The tannins, both grainy and well integrated, create a velvety sensation, leading to an energetic and precise finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This red wine pairs ideally with roasted or braised red meats, as well as with game such as venison, pheasant or venison in sauce. It also goes very well with duck with red berries, mushroom-based dishes such as porcini or truffles, or full-flavoured cheeses such as Époisses.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment, we recommend serving this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 at a temperature between 15 and 17°C, decanting it if it is enjoyed young. This great wine will ideally rest in the cellar until around 2037, with ageing potential extending to 2042.
Méo-Camuzet, an Emblematic Estate in Burgundy
The Estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noir wines are elegant and profound, expressing all the finesse of the Burgundian terroir.
The Vineyard
The climat classified as Premier Cru "Aux Murgers" is located in the northern part of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, on the border with Vosne-Romanée. Facing east on the lower part of the hillside, the vines were planted between 1965 and 1972. They thrive on a clay-limestone terroir whose soils become finer and sandier at the top of the parcel. This climat, renowned as one of the warmest and earliest-ripening in the area, is cultivated using organic methods, with regular ploughing of the soils.
The Vintage
The year 2023 began with a warm, dry winter, leading to a late budburst in early April that protected the vines from frost. The growing season continued under high temperatures, favouring a rapid and uniform flowering. However, the combination of intense heat and abundant rainfall led to particularly strong fungal disease pressure. Finally, a heatwave at harvest time allowed the grapes to reach optimal concentration and richness.
Winemaking and Ageing
The estate's philosophy favours a minimally interventionist approach. After hand harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo a cold maceration lasting three to five days. Fermentation starts naturally with indigenous yeasts, with strict temperature control and gentle punching down towards the end of the process. This Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Aux Murgers" Domaine 2023 is aged in oak barrels, with a carefully managed proportion of new oak. The wine is finally bottled without fining or filtration.
