Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Fixin Village Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a medium-dark red hue, enhanced by brilliant violet highlights.

Nose
Marked by the fruit's beautiful ripeness, the nose opens with aromas of plum and fresh apricot. It then evolves toward richer notes of dried fruits, evoking almond, fig, and raisin, all wrapped in subtle touches of caramel, nougat, and pastry.

Palate
The attack is enveloping and rich, offering a fine balance thanks to a moderate acidity that preserves the wine's freshness. The tannins, softened by the year's warmth, are smooth and well integrated. The finish stands out with a fine minerality, extended by a pleasant warm bitterness.

Food and Wine Pairing

This red wine pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as braised pork, prime rib with parsley, or poultry in finely spiced curry or tandoori sauces. It will also surprise alongside a seafood and saffron paella, tapas, spring rolls, or a cheese board featuring characterful cheeses such as Chaource, Comté, or Époisses.

Service and Storage

For optimal enjoyment, this Fixin Village Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 should be served at a temperature between 13 and 15°C. Approachable from its youth, this wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2028.

The Rich and Mineral Expression of a Fixin Wine by Méo-Camuzet

The Estate

The Méo family's history in Burgundian winemaking dates back to the 17th century, but the current estate truly took root in 1920 with the acquisitions of Étienne Camuzet. Now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, who took the helm in 1984, the estate is recognised worldwide for its excellence. To meet strong demand while preserving the quality of its Burgundy wines, Jean-Nicolas founded the trading house Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs in 2003 with his sisters. This entity works closely with partner winegrowers throughout the year.

The Vineyard

This wine comes from plots located on the lower slopes of the Fixin appellation, north of the Côte de Nuits. The vines grow on soils composed of alluvial deposits and a mixture of limestone and marl. This geographical setting, combined with a south-east exposure and moderate altitude, promotes optimal drainage and gives the wine a fine mineral expression along with a well-defined tannic structure.

The Vintage

The year 2023 was marked by unusual weather conditions, with a spell of intense heat, regular rainfall providing adequate hydration, and a dramatic rise in temperatures in early September at harvest time. This climate produced grapes of remarkable ripeness, rich in sugars and with fine phenolic concentration.

Winemaking and Aging

The estate's philosophy favours minimal intervention. After a few days of cold maceration, fermentation begins naturally with strict temperature control. The grapes are 70% destemmed. Extraction is carried out gently, with pumping-over followed by punching-down at the end of the vatting period. The Fixin Village Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs 2023 is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, including natural malolactic fermentation. Bottling is done by gravity, without filtration.

Grape Variety

100% Pinot Noir.
