Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a deep red hue with intense velvety highlights.
Nose
The nose displays beautiful ripeness, with aromas of red and black fruits (black cherry, blackcurrant, kirsch) intermingled with delicate floral notes of violet and dried rose. The whole is completed by complex secondary nuances evoking forest floor, leather, pepper and liquorice.
Palate
The attack is juicy and seductive, opening onto a palate with a voluptuous texture and impressive concentration. The tannins are pronounced yet remarkably elegant and caressing. A lovely acidity balances the whole, bringing freshness and stretching the wine towards a finish of remarkable length.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with noble, festive dishes such as venison à la royale, pheasant, or rich red meats served with mushroom sauces or wine reductions. It also enhances characterful washed-rind or blue-veined cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
To fully enjoy this Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023, we recommend serving it at 16°C in large crystal glasses, opening the bottle 15 to 30 minutes before tasting. While already seductive, it will reveal its full complexity around 2028-2030 and can age in the cellar until approximately 2043.
The Elegance and Complexity of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Domaine Méo-Camuzet
The Estate
In Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Méo-Camuzet takes its name from Étienne Camuzet, who acquired vines in Clos de Vougeot in 1920. In 1959, Jean Méo took over the running of the estate and continued its story. The first vintage under the Méo-Camuzet label was produced in 1983. Today, the estate cultivates prestigious climats of the Côte de Nuits, including Richebourg, Échézeaux and Cros Parantoux. Its Pinot Noirs are elegant and profound, and express all the finesse of the Burgundy terroir.
The Vineyard
Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" comes from a small historic parcel of 45 ares with an easterly exposure. Surrounded by dry-stone walls, the very old vines, planted in the 1920s, thrive on light soils composed of limestone and marl. This geological structure forces the roots to dig deep, naturally limiting yields while promoting exceptional concentration and great mineral precision.
The Vintage
The 2023 growing season began with a mild winter and a rainy early spring, followed by optimal warmth during flowering. July's water reserves created ideal conditions for fruit development. Faced with a generous nature, the estate carried out intensive green harvesting over three weeks in order to regulate yields. The harvest then took place under clement conditions in early September.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes for the Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023 are harvested exclusively by hand into small perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. In the cellar, the philosophy is minimally interventionist, favouring full destemming and rigorous temperature control during fermentation. The ageing process unfolded very harmoniously, with gradual malolactic fermentations lending the wine remarkable stability.
